Fresh off two 3rd place finishes in the FIM Youth Cup World Championships down in Central America earlier this month, Ryan Young Products/Sherco USA top pilot Patrick Smage started the North American Trials Championships the same way he finished '06. With two impressive wins.

Mounted on a Sherco 2.9 for the USA championships, and having 6 time AMA Champion Ryan Young at the minders role for the Colorado National, Patrick started out of fire with a 35 dab margin of victory over Gas Gas pilot Chris Florin on Saturday. On Sunday Patrick topped California's Cody Webb by a scant 4 dabs. Ryan Young is filling in minder duties for father Noel until the elder Smage's shoulder is healed from surgery earlier in the year.

Said Patrick Smage: - "Having Ryan Young as a minder was awesome. He helped me out a lot with everything. The Sherco was just amazing. It ran perfect and I never had to worry about not making the big walls. I can't thank Ryan Young Products enough for setting me up with the perfect bike. Colorado is a great place to ride and the sections were very fun. Almost every section had big walls, but I felt confident and they rode easier then they looked. The sections were a little bit easier on Sunday. Most of them were pretty straight forward and not very technical. Overall, I had a really good time."

After two rounds Patrick holds a 14 point lead over Chris Florin and Cody Webb for the '07 AMA/NATC Championship series which moves to Tennessee in June.
