  2. Meanwhile, two years later... The screwdriver can opener was getting old so I googled "TTR 125 fuel screw" and found this link. Bought one (14 USD shipping! 48 usd internationall!!) and it seems to be working pretty well. I can reach it and turn it with my fingers.
  3. I know the feeling. I've had my 125 for about nine months now and when a 175 came up for sale in Montana (a long day's drive away) I was sorely tempted to buy it. Besides being fun to ride they make great learner bikes.
  4. Daggs, I'm a relative newbie to trials and motorcycles in general and I love my little Scorpa. I had been looking for a TYS for a few years ( they a somewhat rare in the states) when I found a 125f up in Idaho back in January. The seller and I struck deal and his brother brought it down to me here in Utah. It doesn't have a lot of power but it's a spunky little thing. As far as big bore kits go I've heard from no less than Bob at B&J Racing that the 150cc BBR kits are pretty good, though I don't know how they go bigger than 143cc without case boring. And Bob stills sells his 143 kit, I think. One thing is that the BBR kits always seem associated with top end performance gains and higher compressions in the 11:1 range (IIRC) versus the lower 9+:1 (?) ratios in B&J's kits, that latter favoring low speed bottom end performance? I'm nowhere near an expert on this and would like to hear some ideas on the topic. As it is my 125 has plenty of oomph around the back lot but doesn't go anywhere very fast. Still I like it and am not in a hurry to put a bigger piston in it.
  5. I googled "TYS 125 skid plate" and ended up on this old thread. Very nice skid plate but what really caught my eye is this statement about an accelerator pump. What carburetor have you found that has an accelerator pump in a size small enough for this engine? I have that little throttle lag on my 125 and have been looking around for a carb with an accelerator pump that's small enough but no luck.
  6. So what bore size would you aim for in the future? I was under the impression that 163cc was the max, including the case bore, but it looks like you've discovered otherwise. I think a 163 kit is still available in the USA from B&J Racing. And I'm wondering if the smaller bore 143cc kit would be sufficient for a recreational duffer such as myself. Your thoughts?
  7. I didn't know you could go up to 195cc on these engines. I'm guessing the case needed to be bored out to accept the new cylinder?

  9. Old thread here but I just took possession of a TYS 125F and in messing with the carb I found I could easily adjust the fuel screw with the can opener of my Swiss Army knife. It's a Wenger model and the the can opener resembles a sharp hooked claw. I reach up and stick the sharp end in the slot on the screw and it turns about a half turn each time. I suspect a sharpened dental pick would work too but I would want to ride around with one of those in my pocket. And I have the screw about 3 turns out.

Great idea on paper, maybe, but the reality is I'd probably end up with a bunch of parts stashed in the cubby holes of my garage.
  11. Problem is finding a set of forks here in the states. There's probably more used trials parts in the UK than in our whole country. Complete bikes come up for sale locally but it would be hard to justify buying a whole bike just for the forks. Ah well, I'll keep my eyes open How do 35mm Marzocchi's fit in a stock Relex yoke? I thought the stock tubes were 33mm.
  12. Brewtus, or anyone, if you were to go this sort of route with your TLR where would you look for a replacement fork, or at least an upgrade?

  14. I'm a newb - actually a pre-newb since I don't have a bike yet - but this thread has relevance to me because I recently had a chance to purchase a late model SY 200F. It had a long ride seat and was in pretty good condition, even had a electric stater installed (the battery was up where the number plate would have gone - funky). But the guy's best price was $4750 (~ £3080) So I passed. Was that a mistake? I've gone back and forth about it but I just thought it was too much to pay even if they don't make them any more and my chances of ever seeing another one for sale are next to nil here in the US. Alas. Thoughts? BTW, a 2002 Scorpa SY250 has just come up for sale locally with the asking price of $2995 (~ £1942). These things ain't cheap! As a starter bike would the 250 make me forget about that 200?
