  1. I know this is a old thread but hey I'm reading it 3yrs on ! Have spotted a few companies doing these now and these seem to be pretty reasonable for diversity they offer if anyones interested http://www.danger-uk.co.uk/oset-12-5-16-20-custom-graphics/ Dougie
  2. Bloody good idea .... Did you ever find any Mike ? Dougie
  3. Great thread ! I am in the market for a upgrade for my sons Oset 36v and after reading this have found these here a few £ cheaper http://www.chainreac...CFXLItAodDToAvA Presuming that you are after a 160 disc ? How did eveyone find these, adequate ? or should I be opting for a front 185 or they also do a 203 ?? Dougie
  4. I wasnt going to come up with a new masterpiece but as I couldnt find one I priced all the spares up from the dealers and could have built one cheaper and better than the standard one, just thinking out aloud really. As it happens I have manged to get my hands on a 36v today, its a bot of a chunk and a little older than I was hoping for but hey ho ! So now its Xmas early for my lad next weekend hopefully depending on stock and availabilty from the dealers this week for all the bits I need to get it right before I give it to him....fingers crossed anyway Thanks Dougie
  5. Hi, Yes I wanted to get him a petrol but trying to find one especially a GG50 is proving rather difficult so I have opted to go down the Oset route which I think as a total beginner and with limited practise areas locally seems the more sensible option. They seem to be holding their price pretty well too and the parts are all relativly cheap, might have got my hands on a cheap 36v one now so the build my own may be a 48v option for the future should this purchase happen. fingers crossed any ! and thanks for your input Dougie
  6. Hi, As the title says really who's done it and what sort of issues did you come up against in the process ? Basically I have been in two minds to go down the petrol or electric route as a starter for my 8yr old, really not many decent petrol ones around (been searching for couple of months) unless you start spending £1k + and then you still dont know what sort of a life they have had ! Then of course after watching a few recent trials all the kids seem to be on these Oset bikes and looks like this is the way forward but after being brought up on petrol bikes I suppose that's why I wanted to smell the 2stroke bliss again but that coupled with the obvious noise difference and lack of training areas it looks like Oset it is. I have just briefly priced up all the relevent parts from the main Oset dealer ( may even get a few other parts cheaper elsewhere too) and a couple from a decent Mountain bike dealer and have got together a pretty decent packedge for a 16.0 36v bike for £1000 !! the RRP is £1139 for a lesser spec ! So it has to make sense surley ? Cannot find a decent manual with dimentions etc in but am guessing due to some of the blinged up ones ive seen that I am right in thinking they use basic off the shelf MTB parts, discs, levers, shocks etc ? Any ideas ? Comments ? Tips ? ( cheaper parts elsewhere / from the states and ship feesable? ) All points gladly taken on board Look forward to hearing all your views and thanks in advance Dougie

  8. Cheers Lineaway, they all surly cannot be that bad ? I wanted to go down the 'gas' route as I thought at aged 8 he would be OK on it size and power wise, not really bothered about noise and prefered him to start off with a little clutch control practice and having all the brakes in the right position etc but them Osets do seem very popular so obvs doing something very right !! Bit out of my price range one of those I am afraid ! No I think you maybe right there max what with the success and popularity of the osets these learner petrol bikes are a dieing breed ! Yes telecat I agree but what a crying shame so many of these have been so poorly looked after they are a cracking piece of kit IMO and agree again about the life span of the osets but not heard much bad press about motors packing up etc so I presume they are reasonably durable perhaps?? Thanks for the comments so far anyway people all input will be absorbed for sure Thanks Dougie
  9. Hi people, Well I am pretty new to all this and hopefully someone here maybe able to point me in the direction but there seems to be a distinct lack of these bikes floating around ??? Now this is for only of a couple of reasons I am sure : They are really good and nobody lets them go They are that good that people only past them to friends / family / people who hound them at trials They only imported a few each year and there is not enough to go around They are ***** and they have all been scrapped So whats does everyone think ? Also if I do manage to find one apart from the stator issue on the pre 05 models what else should i be looking out for ? I am not a complete pudding when it comes to bikes and have grew up around them and meticulously maintained them myself with great success over the last 15 years, So to travel 170 (1 way) to find a bike that had been maintained and checked over by a "expert" according to the seller to be far from it has brought me to ask myself " where are all the TXT boys" ? Would be good to hear your views on this particular bike Cheers Dougie
  10. Tltel...... enjoy the beer my friend Yes mate I cannot wait to get started with him and hope he enjoys it, failing that I will sell his and get myself one sooner :-P But no I am sure he will be fine and take to it well he is really enjoying riding bikes now and even at 8yrs the little electric import / rip off motoX bike that I borrowed for him to try he loves it ! Already been looking at a ACU license for him so he can enter some events But my question is " where are all the gas gas 50 boys " cannot find a decent reasonably priced one anywhere ???? Regards Dougie
  11. Yes Nelly that was me @ Frodsham, how did you get on that day ? Your daughter looked like she was getting to grips well with the 80, was that a full or medium wheeled bike can't quite remember and if it's not her first bike what did she start / learn on ? Cheers Dougie
  12. Hi People, *in my best Cilla Black voice* I'm Dougie and I'm from the Wirral................... First things first I suppose as the new boy whats everyone drinking ? virtual drinks are on me !! :guinness:  OK so I am new to the trials scene but am as keen as mustard more so for my 8Yr old boy, I learnt to ride on the fields like most ( when it was generally accepted/ nobody caused trouble & we didnt sue the owner of the land if we binned it) then ventured on road got board of that and started riding byways and green lanes etc on the road leagl enduro style bikes, still doing it and still loving it. My respect for trials has always been there and has fascinated me control, skill and style wise anyway it has really caught my eye now and I fancy a bash ! However I see this as the perfect starting point for my youngest son to start riding bikes and I know he will thoroughly enjoy and hopefully excell at the sport, I really dont want to go down the motoX road, especially after visting a recent Frodsham trial at Mouldsworth and a Cheshire Youth event @ swann farm the relaxed atmosphere coupled with the politeness and welcoming attitude of everyone I encounted sealed it for me. I am currently on the lookout for a "Gas Gas TXT 50 boy" if anyone knows of any going please get in touch ( anything considered) have just got in from a 340mile round trip where the terribly nice lad with the sandwich short of a picnic failed to inform me of a basic faults on the bike ( assured me that all the work recently done and bike had been checked over by an expert) wheel bearing , shock linkedge etc so It kind of made me wonder what sort of workmanship and TLC had gone into the other jobs internally and he refused to meet me half way on the price of the parts so I returned with a empty van ! So the search continues........ Right thats enough of my drivvle so shout out your drink and lets here what you have to say, all advice/ tips / warnings pointers will be gratefully rreceived and duly noted. Best Regards Dougie
  13. Hey please excuse my ignorance but I am too looking at getting youngest into trials and have a similar dilimer but wondered how the clutch worked on the gasgas ? I understand how the centrifugal clutch works on the initial start but what happens when lets say the revs are down and they are coasting ( not down hill under load) ?? will it drop out of gear and the require them to rev it up again to get it into one of the two pre selected gears ? Thanks in advance people Regards Dougie
