Hi all
Next problem ....
Clutch cover recently wore through at the very bottom (see first pic)
Replaced with new one and rode it once and the water pump seal failed and dumped water into gear box.
Pulled brand new cover off and found this significant pitting/corrosion at the very bottom (see 2nd pic)
What's going on ???
There are no metal bits floating around in there. Magnetic plugs clean.
Could the oil/water mix be corrosive enough to cause this ???
And, why on God's earth does GG paint the inside of these covers ???
The paint just peels off with obvious undesireable results !!!
Thanks again Arnoux
After many hours searching the net I've found several pic's and videos which show similar holes.
As stated above, some seem more "tidier" than others (mine), but definitely there is a hole there.
Great relief obviously .....
Finally got around to splitting the engine.
Found the problen straight away.
1 tooth had come off one of the gears and was lodged in the slot on the selector barrel.
Was riding on a road between sections in 5th.
At the end went to change down and it was locked up in 5th.
Didn't drop it or hit anything.
Was changing gear completely normally till then.
If I split the engine is there a gasket/seal kit available that will have everything I need to rebuild ?
So, went for a ride and put it in 5th gear and now that's where it is stuck. The gear lever is stuck solid.Pulled the clutch basket out and tried to turn the shaft that the shift lever rotates and it is definitely stuck solid.Anybody else had this problem ? and is there a fix other than splitting the cases ?
