  1. Yes you will have to take out that bottom bolt. I use a strap to suck down the front end, then hit the bolt with an electric impact. Always works for me. You need to clean the bronze bushings inside as well. I had my 2016 Beta front left fork leg all gouged up, and have had to replace that inner bronze bushing twice now.
  2. I see your from California, contact Randy Lewis at R-racing 661-821-9952. He knows every thing about rebuilding Beta shocks, i have an Ohlins on the rear of my 2016 Factory 4T that he modified, it's still my favorite bike.
  3. Talk to Bob at Mountain Motorcycle, he will know for sure and have the part in stock as well.

    Gear Selector spring

I got my clutch basket off my 2016 300 4t the other day, didn't have a special tool, just some heat on the center nut and a quick brap with an electric impact. The little wheel/lever that holds the shifter on the drum was starting to degenerate. Replaced it with a new Beta part, funny thing was the new part was a mirror image of the old part, (someone made them backwards at the factory) just installed it upside down after filling a small notch for the spring. Works perfect now, just wondering where those 3 small loose ball bearings went?
  5. I measured a 7.7mm gap, not much room with a 6mm wide seal but water will always find away. Will give it a try when the new stock seal wears out.
  6. The stock water pump seal is a 10x18x4, on my 2016 4T300, with over 250 hours it started to weep, replaced it with the stock seal, but the autoparts guy said they had 10x18x6 seals. Was thinking you may just have enough room to use the slightly wider seal, which would then contact the shaft at a different (unused) point on the shaft. Would be close as you still need to let enough room for the water to leak out when the seal finally goes. Would save having to buy and install a new waterpump shaft. Will try it when the new seal starts to leak.
  7. Rode 2 stroke all my life, so when i compete i use the 2 stroke 250, you can feel the extra weight of a 4T. Initially i hated the 300 4T, only bought it as an experiment. But the more i rode it (and sorted the jetting out) the more i like it. The 4T still has the very odd time that it will stall if i drop into a hole then have to make a sharp turn back out, happens maybe once every 40 or 50 times. Used to do it nearly every time, so the carb maybe still a bit little off. Also the 4Ts clutch is a little more off/on, where as the 2T engages a little smoother. With that said i still love the 4T and prefer it on a longer "trail ride". If i could only have one bike, it would be the Super Smooth 300, a nice compromise between them both. If i could get my wife's permission, I would have one.
  8. In my younger day's money was tight, i bought lightly used demos, one year old, never had any serious issues with a used Beta. Now i'm older and richer, and i love bling, so i buy brand new Factory editions. But honestly, i would buy a standard model and add an Ohlins or Rieger shock, with some red bling on it and be very happy. Currently running a 2017 Factory 250 2T and a 2016 Factory 3004T, both with Ohlins shocks that i've had adjusted to my liking, and i don't think the bikes are holding me back. I do wish Beta would put a better rear shocks on their Factory editions. When it comes to resale your not likely to get much more for it, so best to run it for as long as you can and pile the hours into it and get your moneys worth out of it, after all, it's the rider that makes the difference.
  9. There is a difference, the original that came stock on my 2016 factory 3004T has a black cover, the newer 2019 style had a grey cover. Taking them apart you can see the cam is different as well as the housing that it fits into.
  10. I have aprox 250 hours each on my 2016 4T and 2017 2T. I used to buy a newer bike every year and half, but both are running strong and have been dialed in motor wise (jetting for the 4T and high comp head on 2T) and suspension wise (running Ohlins shocks that have been re-valved the way i like). Think i will be running them at least another 2 years. Only reason i got rid of my 2013 300 was because it had a false neutral between 2-3rd gear. The way you ride and do maintenance, i think at least 500-700 hours. I have bought low hour used bikes off expert/pro riders before, and thought all 3 had not been serviced as good as you (or i) have been doing. Huge difference between a lightly ridden trail bike and one being regularly revved to the moon, clutch dumped then thrown away and revving it's guts out after a big crash.

    Beta Evo Running Hot

Change is good donkey! quoted from Shrek. (It sells bikes, and we all love to buy new bikes)

    Beta Evo Running Hot

Doesn't really matter, the Evo we ride today hasn't changed all that much since 2009, and is not likely to change that much in the future (other than bold new graphics, revised porting on the cylinder, and some fine tuning on that same old Saches rear shock!)

    Beta Evo Running Hot

Yes 2 strokes can run real hot, lot's of good info above, (rectifiers not giving enough juice to run fan, blocked carb). My 2017 250 2T was also burning my leg, burnt a hole thru my pants, i took the plastic guard off and put 2 layers of aluminum automobile stick on tape on the underneath side of the plastic guard, as well as washers underneath to push the guard out 1/16th of an inch away from the pipe. No more burnt leg.
  14. Totally depends on the condition of the bike and the price, parts are still readily available, (at least in Canada), good bike to start with IF in good condition. My buddy had one and put 100s of hours on it, that's why i got one in 99. But generally the newer the better. You could spend a lot of money and time replacing wheel, swingarm bearings, pivot bearings, fork seals, headset bearings, sprockets, chain, rebuilding brake cylinders....
  15. I'm a 215 pound advanced rider (competing in trials since 98). I have had 3 300s in the past, and still have a 3004t, but that's another story. In 2017 i switched back to a Factory 250 2T after finding 300s had too much spin in low traction conditions. After trying my friends 2016 250 2t Beta. I really liked it. But when i got my Factory edition 250 in 2017 i was disappointed, the bike was a pooch. I tried Boyseen reeds, faster throttle helped, mototasserani reeds made it even smoother on the bottom but no real poop. I was seriously considering a new 300cc jug and piston or trade-in time. Then someone suggested running the red-head insert from S-3, only 90$ so i took a gamble. Really happy with the bike now, still has a nice progressive low and mid but with a nice bite on the top. I have tried the SS model and i like it and came very close to getting one in 2017, but to to change a factory 300 into a SS will cost you a lot of money, as they run a heavier flywheel and heavier clutch basket, different exhaust, different head insert, slow throttle. If i weighed 160 pounds or less i would even consider the 200cc model. That 2018 Factory edition 300 will be a bit too much for you, keep looking and try as many different bikes as you can.
  16. Whats a good age to start a kid on? Granddaughter has just turned 2, don't want to see her get hurt, but, would love to get her on a trials bike one day.

    HELP NEEDED

Nothing like that on my Beta's, (maybe it fell off in the bush somewhere).

    evo 250 or 300

I put duct tape over my seat grill's, no water in the airbox.
  19. A couple of my riding buddies, usually compete on Gassers, which usually ran the Reiger rear shock, both felt that when the newer Gasgas models came with the Ohlins that it was a step back, one of them went to a new 2020 Vertigo and loves the Reiger. Never heard of the Tech shock but have tried their front forks and love them. I run Ohlins on my 2017 250 2T and my 2017 300 4T, took a few rebuilds to get them where i like them. (changed the compression dampening on the last 1/3rd of travel - stiffer, as i was bottoming too harsh even with the stiffest spring set up high) but i weighed 230 pounds at the time. If i where to do it again i would go for a Reiger (maybe on a TRS).
  20. The trick is to use the hot start AND hold the throttle open, usually starts first kick, then the hot start button conveniently pops back in from all the vibrations!

    Tech forks

Randy had the exact same bike i have, a 2017 Factory 2T 250cc, and he's been in the trials game for many years, so the shock was setup pretty good from right out of the box.

    4RT to 4T?

Honestly, i own a 2016 Factory Beta 3004t, and hated it when i first got it, took a long while to rejet it and get it to not stall when chugging thru a section, regearing, new 2019 updated style throttle all helped. Tried a 2019 Beta Factory 3004t last year (it has a newer blackbox) and I thought it pulled nicer than my 2016. I have tried the Monty 2017 repsol model, and felt the suspension was better than my Beta (with Ohlins shock). I would just keep the Monty and look at upgrading the rear shock with a Showa unit. Just my opinion, nothing nicer than a brand new bike. The new 301 Monty (other than the battleship grey) looks like a winner, your bike being low hours might well get a you good trade in price?

    Tech forks

One came from Splat shop in the UK. The other came from R-Racing just outside of Stockton California, but that one was hand built by Randy Lewis. They look totally different. The r-racing has a built on reservoir with a compression adjuster. I believe Rieger makes an aftermarket shock for the Beta as well, available thru Splat shop. If shopping on-line make sure to click on US currency, it removes the Value Added Tax (22%) and get Royal Mail delivery. Fed-ex or UPS adds an import fee, Royal Mail does not. It's pretty fast too.
  24. My Dad machined an extra bolt on flywheel weight for my sons Gasgas 200 (176cc) in 2003 and 2005 models, really made the bikes smooth and manageable, had no problem pulling my 210 pounds around. I believe it weighed a little over a pound.
  25. Run Motul 300V in my Beta Trannys, both 4T and 2T. Still haven't done the Beta clutch mod on my 2017 2T as it works good stock.
