  1. Hi Konrad Yes you are quite right, I worked this out eventually, cost me a great deal of heart ache, but I got there. The white wire is the kill wire, as you say it shorts or earths the CDI and is your kill. Once I worked this out, with some help from a great rewind guy in Cornwall, I rewired the whole lot and it works a treat. Kill switch and all. Thanks for responding. Bernie
  2. Hi Ourian I have picked up on this thread regarding the regulator, only in a Beta Techno. I have tried to follow the link, but there is an error with it, probably because it is four years old. Can you point me in the right direction again. Many thanks
  3. Hi Thanks for responding, What do you mean by "top of this forum" and has the fix "pinned" ? Sorry I am new to using forums.... Cheers Bernie
  4. Hi one and all. I have read lots of little bits on here that mention similar problems to what I am experiencing. When cold little or no clutch, with not a lot of improvement when warmer. Bike is new to me, so I want to change the engine oil, as no idea what is in there or how old it is. My first question is what oil should I be using? The manual says 20W/30 yet I read lots of posts about using ATF, some not so good. Is there a recommended oil that is used to alleviate the cold clutch issues? I have also read comments about a clutch modification for Techno bikes, but cannot find a link to see what it is. Can anyone help. I need to get this right as my lad is busting to start riding and learn his skills, but starting your bike riding life with little or no clutch is not really fair, us older more experienced riders can possibly get away with it. Having said this, it nearly dumped me when I got it going last night to test the swinging arm rebuild. Any advise is appreciated. Bernie the bolt.
  5. Evening all I have started to delve into the recently acquired 96 Techno's wiring in order to fit the correct fan and thermostat, and to also fit a kill switch as my lad needs the added safety should he become unattached( and me as its been a while). So I have trawled looking for a decent wiring diagram, only finding a fuzzy version that you cannot read the colour codes. I have now courtesy of BVM Moto got a clearer version, but I am still at a bit of a loss. I will attach the diagram, along with my own version of what I have on the bike. Although I have removed the fan that was fitted with a live feed, and earthed as a negative. My question to you much wiser people than I, would be firstly, does that link for the fan look right? I want to remove the current run switch and fit a kill magnetic button in its place. The problem I have is the switch is open circuit when the button is attached and closed when removed. This suggests to me the function of this kill switch is to short to earth what ever feed it is linked to. As I have seen the price of a replacement CDI (what ever that stands for) I am reluctant to bowl in there and make it up as I go. Any thoughts and observations would be appreciated. many thanks Bernie Techno_wiring_diagram.xlsx Bernies Techno wiring Diagram.pdf
  6. Hi Neville

I have read a thread regarding Techno wiring, where you have placed a sketch online. Do you still have a copy of that, as I too am struggling to unravel a previous owners effort to make spaghetti.

I have a diagram from tinternet, but it is very fuzzy and has no colour chart.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  7. Thanks, I had looked at fettling some aluminium, but to be honest a complete fan as a whole lot easier and quicker. Purchased it right now! Off to purchase a stat online next. Any wiring diagrams out there, as it looks like I may have to do a little knitting, undoing what some one has done..... So once fitted both, can I rely on the stat cutting in and out to tell me all is well? Cheers Bernie
  8. Morning everyone, Finally bought my boy his first trials bike, it is his Christmas present! Poor boy has had a helmet, boots and gloves for nigh on six months, has looked at several heaps but finally found what we wanted in budget. So we have brought it home and given it a visual once over, blind leading the blind as far as modern bikes go. My history was a Montesa Cota 247, mooching around our woods and having fun. Right shin to match the kick start! There are cosmetic's to do, swinging arm bearings to replace and fit a kill switch for a newbee. We have also noticed the thermostat has been removed and a multi fit fan fitted. So we have a few questions, most importantly what is the best kill switch to use for a complete novice? The other is how do we check if the cooling side of things is working? Fan runs all the time but has been put on an adaptor plate which covers 25mm of the top of the rad. I think it is on back to front as it is drawing air from the engine through the rad. Surely this should be the other way around? How do we prove the water is circulating? I appreciate I need to go looking for feeds relating to this, but hey if you don't ask you don't get. Last one, does anyone have a user manual for the year of bike? It would be good for the boy to read through and understand what needs doing and when. Once he has mastered riding it and been up in the woods, he is interested in having a go at an event, something I know nothing about, other than watching Kickstart from back in the day. I guess we would both benefit from attending a few trials to watch and learn. So that's us and our new little project. Some great Boy Dad time fixing, learning and I expect breaking.... Less of the latter hopefully. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Bolt (Not Usane)
