  1. Blimey - its been a while since I've worked this forum thingymabob - I'm surprised I can still remember how it goes....this new Dad mullarkey takes up WAY more time than I ever imagined!!! Have I missed anything?!?!?! Anyways, on to my question (and I might be slaughtered for this as I may be going over old ground, but I don't have time to search the back-dated posts and news any more!!!). Due to Mrs Boots working the weekend, and Bootees being a tad too little to be trekked about all day, I'm going to be MIA this year...is anyone planning doing live updates to the scoring? I guess Andy will be a bit on the busy side...I understand there's a new fangled real-time scoring system in place - so are the scored going to be available on-line somehow?!?!? Sorry if you've all been over this already...just point me in the right direction!!!
  2. I've got a 250 Rev3, and I rode a trial last weekend in the wet, slimey, slippy mud, and I used 1st for every single section. I always use 1st unless there's a big climb involved. If you're in 1st you have tremendous engine braking for going downhills so you can get off the brakes (useful in the mud!). It also gives you a bit more time to do things as the bike doesn't run away with you and make you rush. Cheers Chris Mo.
  3. At this time of year the bit of level ground inside the gate gets a bit muddy and slippy, so if you've not in something that can cope well with the mud, take a friend!!! Other than that, its a cracking place to practise. Provided you like rocks, rocks and more rocks!!! Plenty to keep you going for hours. Cheers Chris Mo.
  4. Was Trialsworld a subscription-only magazine?? I ask as I never actually saw it on sale anywhere. Now, I'll be honest, I didn't go miles out of my way to find it, but when you consider I work in Leeds City Centre and pop into WH Smiths a couple of times a week, I figured I'd stumble across it, have a look and, if it was any good, buy it. I apply the same policy with TMX. If there's something I want to read about, I'll generally buy it. But not always. As for a subscription to TC - depends how much it is Its a difficult question. When people have got used to summat fer nowt, its hard work persuading them to start paying for the same service. People would generally expect more in return for the subscription - human nature. So then we ask - what MORE could we add to TC that would make it considerably better? Not a great deal if you ask me. We get up to date news, opinion, plenty of space to air our views, social events occasionally, and even our own trial. We've got it pretty (no - make that VERY) good. So, do we speculate to accumulate? Do we look for sponsors / subscription to get the money in so that TC can then advertise or sponsor events or riders, and in turn perhaps generate more revenue? But then it becomes a business - and very rarely do business and pleasure mix. Andy (and the rest of the team) give so much time and effort because they enjoy it...but when the money gets involved the pressure increases and the fun goes out of it. Its a hard call...and not one I would like to make. But thats what democracy is all about!!! Right, time to go kick a stranger....(5 a-side night - I'm not a mentalist!!) Laters Chris Mo.
  5. YAAAAAAAAY!!! Where abouts fella? There's plenty of us Yorkshire folk knockin' about on 'ere...and not in anyway to encourage any regionalism, but we are ALL marvellous...thats what comes of a restricted gene pool!!! You a member of any particular club? Cheers Chris Mo.
  6. Sorry - fair point. There I was thinking that the topic had got a bit technical and deep, and I went and made it worse!!! Its true what they say about us IT bods - deep down we're all nerds really!!! Point I was trying to make to Steve was not to get bogged down in the technical (but very valid) comments that have been passed (ironic now I come to look at it!)...I liked the site and he can be very proud of his efforts. Now, as I was saying, XArchie is...... ZZZZZzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzz
  7. Me too - on a UNIX X-windows platform running XArchie and command-line FTP...brilliant. Neonsurge - we're in the same industry and sector...company I work for does Doc Management and Workflow for LG....freaky!!!! Steve, dodging all the technical guff for a moment, the golden rules of developing ANY software, be it web-based or otherwise, are 1) it works, and 2) its easy to use. You're site looks very nice, does exactly what it says on the tin, and keeps people interested. Not a bad effort at all! Cheers Chris Mo.
  8. Mrs Boots has been quoted as saying she "uses Febreeze to sort out my sweaty helmet..." never did find out what she was referring to!!
  9. If you don't get your head round it Ryan, take it to one of the local dealers. It usually costs around 50 quid to have both seals done. Its worth the extra cash if you can spare it not to have the frustration of doing battle, not knowing for sure if you're making a decent job of it or not. When you get them done - either by yourself or whomever - I got a good tip from Telecat at a trial recently. When you've finished riding for the day, give the fork tube (the bit that slides up and down - sorry, not good on technical terms!) a spray with some WD40, and bounce the forms up and down a few times. You will probably get a 'high tide' mark of muck and dust. Wipe it off, spray again with WD40 and repeat a few times until nice and clean. Works a treat. I used to do fork seals in on a regular basis, but the last lot have lasted me loads longer than normal just for a bit of care before the bike goes in the garage. Cheers Chris Mo.
  10. I hate being the guinea pig...I invariably naff it up!! I much prefer to learn from someone else's mistakes. I'd follow your young 'un around, but he doesn't make many mistakes...!!! Cheers pal...I'm thinking about setting up a section made out of second-hand nappies - might get some practise in those slippy & muddy conditions... A very good point, and one that has been made a few times on here. The observers give up their time to stand and watch us make fools of ourselves in all weathers...Mrs Boots is (or rather 'used to be') a regular observer, and one thing that rattled her cage was people not having the decency to say thanks. Treat the observers right and they'll look after you when those border-line decisions need to be made
  11. Nowt much on telly tonight then Telecat? All rock solid advice. Get yourself(ves) along to a club trial, and have a watch. And ask a few questions - don't be afraid. Most of the riders, observers and spectators will be only too glad to help. If you come along and have a look, you'll see what sort of sections you might be up against, how the observing works and how the events are run. Other alternative is to get your ACU membership, pitch up at trial, pay the membership and the entry fee and give it a whirl. Steep learning curve, but you'll know for next time!!! Whateve you decide, just get yourselves on here regularly and ask the questions. Cheers (and see you at a trial soon - I'll be the one face down in the mud!) Chris Mo.
  12. S'a good point, and one not wasted on me!! I consciously try and 'use the dab' now - I too was (some might say I still am) a Ballet Dancer - light of toe and many of marks!!! If you double prod and turn a 1 into a 2 or even a 3, over the course of a 40 section trial that soon racks up!! I'm currently trying the 's%*t or bust' technique - feet up as long as possible until it turns into a spectacular 5!!! (And I've got the bruises to prove it) Cheers Chris Mo.
  13. Addingham Moorside is not a quarry, but there's plenty of rocks. Its where Yeadon & Guiseley host the Mackenzie Trophy (British Championship round). Park up on the flat bit inside the gate, remembering to shut it behind you. The farmer will probably turn up and collect a couple of quid per head. Best two quid you'll ever spend. You can get to it from Silsden or from the A65. I think the road that runs past the venue is called Lightbank Lane or something similar. Cheers Chis Mo.
  14. Welcome aboard. You're in good shape for dealers round about here. As well as <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> down at Royston, there's also DMS Trialsport at Flockton, which is just off Jnc 39 of the M1. It goes under the guise of something like KH Wadsworth Kawasaki dealers, but they usually have a few bikes in. Last time I was in they had two or thee bikes in (although nothing much in your price range). Give Tony Kaye a bell at <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> - its a bit further away but you'll get good honest advice. <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> also buy and sell road bikes, so might be a good contact for you. Have you joined a club yet - and if so which one? Again, you're spoiled for choice... I'm originally from Leeds but am now based just down the road in Wakey, so if you need any local advice, drop me a PM. Good luck! Cheers Chris Mo.
  15. I must admit, I agree with Ishy on this one. Its not about being brave. We supposedly live in a democracy - we have a right to our opinions, and we have a right for those opinions to be heard. How can you attach any credence to anonymity? If people need to hide behind an alter ego in order to make a statement, then they are obviously aware that the points they raise are either controversial, offensive or unfounded. By removing that cover, then people will have to think more carefully about what, how and why they say things. Nothing was ever resolved or improved by imaginery people!! Cheers Chris Mo.
