  1. I think most people would agree that the Beta Rev3 is a great bike - but what irks me is Betas reluctance in the past to address a number of common recurring problems with their bikes namely: 1. rear shock protector/rubber flap wears out on rear tyre 2. corrosion problem with magnesium water pump casing 3. stator failures It may be a little early to comment on the stator issue, but can any EVO owners report on whether these problems have been sorted on the new models? tks
  2. Anyone heard more info on the EVO? I thought somebody would have had a test ride by now? Seems to have gone very quiet. Are they for sale yet?
  3. And the exhaust has also changed shape..... Yes - it is still only one - i wonder when they are going to actually start manufacturing them? But it is good to see they are taking the time to test it & make modifications and get it right before they try to sell them. I guess we will know towards the end of 2008.
  4. Stumbled upon this video at Phototrial.it of David Cobos riding the Xispa in Maisse, France (WTC Round 5?). http://www.phototrial.it/2008/2008srg-video-david.html and photos here http://www.phototrial.it/2008/david.html DW
  5. Hi Worldtrialchamp, I upgraded with the complete kit. For $200(AUS) the base kit with all those trials specific extras is good value, particularly given you just can't get it anywhere else. I had priced other carbies namely the Keihin (which has identical specifications) and it was $325 and needed $100 of further Keihin parts before one could even consider installing it onto a Rev3 (jets, special guide). Add to that a throttle cable, clamps, jets, the fact that the idle and mixture screws would be on the wrong side and you start to see the value of the complete kit that includes everything to match a 2008 model. Its easy to overlook the fact that you are not just paying for parts, but also the time someone has invested to make sure this thing works and fits well. I am not particulary technically savvy - yet it was reasonably easy for me to fit and when I had an issue (my fault) they guy was able to help. I guess it depends on whether you are happy to spend many hours & effort trying to make something work or just want to buy something allready sorted with all the bits you need and all the hard work done. Hope this helps DW
  6. Contact this guy - he sells complete changeover kits for the rev3 and other bikes. I have converted my early model Beta rev3 & I am very happy with the results. (btw he is in Australia) trialtech@optusnet.com.au DW
  7. Just checked the final entry list for the Scottish 6 day and unless i have read it incorrectly - there is NO Xispa on the entry list www.ssdt.org Anyone know what happened?
  8. You never know.....the Xispa bikes might surprise everyone. I for one hope they do ok. If they do, it will certainly give everyone something to talk about.
  9. http://www.trial-club.com/ Translated from French - "How to prove the reliability of its new motorcycle trial, Xispa has found the solution, include two Xispa X250R al'
  10. Anyone recognise what bike this is? Doesn't look like a Beta. Mikuni gets another bad rap i guess. Ya!
  11. Does anyone know if a full sticker set for TY250R 'Pinky' is available? JK Hirst are listing them as out of stock. Any ideas? Thanks Phil
  12. OK, changed plug to a hotter BP6ES and it seems to have sorted it out. See - didn't need your help anyway
  13. I have recently aquired a 1992 Beta Synt 240. Over the last week I have given it a (long overdue) service - i.e. flushed coolant, gearbox oil, cleaned air filter, new plug, carby clean etc. Took the Synt for it's first blast on the weekend. Runs really well. Some steep rocky uphills, creek beds and trails. No overheating issues. Runs smooth. Only problem is after approx 2hrs of riding the engine stalled and would not kick over. Checked spark plug and noticed it was all black, replaced plug and it fired first time. Spark Plug used is NGK BP7ES. Any ideas why the plug would foul? Is this the right plug? I would assume it was carby mixture issue....not sure...any ideas? Thanks in advance Phil
  14. Yep, I have the same problem. I have been told that a 'blowtorch' should heat them up and loosen them. Maybe thats the go if the WD40 doesn't work. Let us know how you go
  15. Hey screwdriver, hows it all going? I have recently aquired a 92 Beta Synt 240 and have just done all the usual post purchase adjustments, cleaning and inspections etc. Fingers crossed but I haven't found any real nasties yet. I read your post with interest as the Beta Zero is similar to the Synt (Zero had alloy frame, Synt had steel as I understand it). That crud that came out of your radiator may have been some sealer used to plug leaks in the radiator - i don't know but it is certainly not right! I have read other posts on this forum indicating that these model bikes suffered from corrosion problems caused by the high magnesium content in the crankcase. I was keen to check if this was an issue in my bike. I pulled it apart and it seems fine. No contaminants in oil & coolant was clean and green! This got me thinking. I wonder if the alleged corrosion problem occured due to poor maintenance on these bikes (ie no coolant in system) rather than being a manufacturing issue. Anyway, let us know how you are going with your bike.
