    Gino Rea

I know a lot of riders from other disciplines use trials as a form of good training, it was just interesting in watching Gino as he'd never ridden a trials bike before and he was doing some pretty advanced stuff especially for a novice. On another note, I'm doing a photo shoot and piece with a couple of journalists from Fastbikes Magazine on Tuesday along with Steve Saunders. The magazine is UK based and is aimed at the sports bike crowd. They've asked us to help out and show their readers how trials and off-road riding can improve their on-road skills. Steve will be putting them (along with Tonymoto and I ) through our paces and hopefully it will be going into print in the next couple of issues. Steve will be bringing down a couple of his new Beta's from his training school and introduce them to the sport. It's promising to be a good day out and it'll be interesting to see what they'll make of it.
  5. Yesterday whilst a few of us were having a play at Tonymoto's a young lad came across to have a chat with us and to see what was going on. It was Gino Rea who was taking time out to do a bit of pre-season training before he belts his way around Europe in the World Supersport 600 class. "So do you fancy a quick go was the question" "Alright then - I'll give it a try!" was the response. We watched as he faultered out on way around the arena and he was soon clearing the climbs and the steps and with some ease too - He was riding with great confidence. When he came back in I asked him how long it had been since he'd ridden a trials bike. "It's my first go ever - great fun isn't it?" was his geniune reply - we were all gobsmacked! He thought that having a go would be good for his training, a point that we're hoping that he'll express to the rest of the riders in the paddock during his seasons racing. I've seen him on a MX bike which he can fling around with the best of them, I've seen him in action doing Supermoto, which he can slide practically everywhere, he took a win in the final race of the European Supersport 600 last year, and now watch out - when road racing has battered him up - he may just be clearing sections near you! Shaun.

    Cooling Fan

if you do put in a fan from a different source such as a computer.... (!) then it's worth checking how much current it's going to draw as if it's too high then you may find that the bikes generator can't cope with the current and (or) you may end up with ignition problems/weak spark etc.... just a thought like....
  7. here you go - sorry I don't know anything about these but it does look the biz though! direct link to ebay

    Smoky Bike

Are you sure that you're pre-mixing to the right ratio? If you're gearbox/crankcase seal went then the bike would probably be running rough and smoking like fury. I guess that you should be running at around 70:1 fuel/oil mix which is 71.5cc oil for 5ltrs fuel (70cc will be fine). A little smoking from the exhaust is nothing to worry about and you should expect a little build up of oil especially when you're just pottering around.

    My Day...

Lazy gits at the classic trials club for not using a phone? Why didn't you phone up to see if it was open before setting off half way around the country? Just a thought like.....
  10. Should be there on day over the w/e....
  11. Popped into the shop today to pick up a bit or two and they've just sold a couple of bikes. One was a lovey Fantic 214 in fab condition and the other was an '04 Beta 125 rev 3.... was it anybody on here? Just being nosey that's all! Shaun.
  12. Hi Bren, I got your message earlier. As far as Ringwood goes then In Chains are the only trials dealer for miles. In-Chains are very helpful though and have helmets in stock at good prices. If they don't have your size in then they can get them pretty quick. You may be able to pick up a helmet at any of the numerous bike shops around the Bournemouth/Poole area though but they probaby won't be trials orientated. The next nearest trials stockists will be Gordon Farley M/C's in Guildford or Jam Sport in Farnham........ Shaun. a.k.a. Solentsuper on another forum....
  13. He's just a young SAPPLING in the sport - asking 'dumb' questions can be a HAWTHORNY subject I suppose, but at least he did ASH nicely and wasnt' WHITTLED away buy all the WARPED answers! He should have TWIGGED that that we were all going to JOSHUA him around the BLOCK and try leading him up the wrong AVENUE. You lot certainly SAW him coming! Shaun. (is there a prize for these answers? lol) Yes I'm BOARD! Ok I'll get my coat.!
  14. I admit to giving the observer a loud "WHAT?". It was a very silly thing to do as he was a young lad who promptly burst into tears and to be honest I felt a right **** for not controlling my normally placid temper and taking my own inept competence on the chin. I made every effort to mend my mistake and I appologised profusely to him, but that particular moment still haunts me to this day. He was there to help out and was doing a good job. I should have known better really as my own young lad was observing a trial a few months before and one rider dabbed a few times and my son gave him a '5'. I asked him why did he give him a 5 and he explained that "He swore and said a very bad word, so I gave him a 5 for swearing"! We need observers, it's necessary part of the sport - I was a right twit for swearing and I won't be doing it again. Lesson learn't.
