THANKS B40RT AND ROCKARIA THE PHOTO IS A GREAT HELP THE FRAME I HAVE IS VERY SIMILAR ONE DIFFERENCE WE HAVE SPOTTED IS THE TOP AND BOTTOM REAR SHOCKER MOUNTING POINTS BUT THE DIAMOND SEEMS THE CLOSEST MATCH TO WHAT I HAVE. I AM OPEN TO ANY OTHER MINI TRIALS BIKE BUILDER'S OF THAT ERA,ONE THING I HAVE SPOTTED WHICH MIGHT HELP PIN DOWN WHAT THIS IS,IS THAT ON THE FRAME THAT I HAVE AS A LARGE TOP TUBE OF 1 3/4 INCHES AND A SMALLER 1 INCH DIAMETER TUBE FROM WHERE THE FRONT DOWN TUBES ARE WELDED TO THE HEAD STOCK AND WELDED TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE MAIN TOP TUBE APPROX HALF WAY DOWN IT'S LENGTH IF THIS IS UNDERSTANDABLE. DON'T KNOW HOW MANY VERSIONS AND ALTERATION'S WERE MADE THROUGHOUT THE DIAMOND TRIALS BIKE SHORT LIFE.THANKS ONCE AGAIN 08 COLIN

Hi All might be one for big J looking for information and photo's of the late 60's Diamond trials bike, the only information i have found to date is in Mr Morleys british two stroke book and there is no photo's I have aquired a frame which i was told was a Dalesman which i don't think it is,on rubbing back the paint work the frame looks to have been a pale blue but the rear chain is adjusted by snail cams on the swinging arm pivot it has prop stand mtg bracket on the R/H side the frame is also twin down tube forming a cradle under the engine, engine mounting's look to be for a sachs engine. It looks at first glance like a rickman but they were nickle plated or possible wassell but from the pictures doesn't have the snail cam adjusted rear chain so now i'm open to suggestion's and any help that i can find on the diamond trials bike that was made in Birmingham in the late 60's mini trials bike era, thanks in anticipation o8 Colin.
  3. while you have the clutch cover try the kick start again and watch the clutch unit to see if it is slipping plates make sure you have some cable free play at at handle bar lever if nesesary slacken the clutch centre push rod ajuster after that its down to the clutch plates and the clutch spring tension ajustment as i have already said you should be able to see what 's going on while you have the primarycover off, also while your at it check the gearbox sprocket hasn.t come loose and also check the end float on the clutch unit hope this helps colini
  4. hi b40 had no problems using a 15mm axle in the rear wheel of my h/weight ajs as the swinging arm on my ajs uses the one out of smaller and lighter 250 amc bikes sorry don't know the b40 set up but can't see any problem as long as you are using a steel axle colin
  5. I have started my next project, a heavy weight ajs (matchless) have started to collect part's etc, have acquired a late amc gearbox but it is a road box not a trials, any ideas out there what ratios do i need and is there anybody specializing in making or supplying internals for these gear boxes, any ideas also on rear shock and spring rates (who's is best).for the heavy weights. Colin
  6. tell me how i post and i will definatly post picture's if you talk with big j nicely he might he has some photo's colin
  7. hi there sparks2 yes that is the same malcom barnes although he has now virtualy retired, i took the pennine across to his home for him to look over and have a ride on he is now suffering badly with artheritous in his hands and knnee's he has still got 3 trials bikes last i saw him out on a trials bike couple of years ago at a poachers club trial at biscathorpe quarry riding a ht5 of which he remarked was getting too harder work for his hands and knee's with the artheritous but if i could get ossa fully sorted he would love to ride again i've promised him when i get the carb back from been resleeved and its back up and running ok he can borrow it anytime, just to see him ride an ossa again, he'd fallen in love again and to think i'd managed to find one and resurect one back to original i spoke with mick andrews and he has seen the bike he reconded it must be the only original mk 1 left in uk as he as he doesn't of know of any other that is unless anyone knows different let me know would see another surive colin
  8. As i mentioned in an earlier post i have a 32a complete bottom end sat here and no top end iv'e had a whisper that i know where there is a 350 top end layed by what i can find out it is a square barrel but the top end of the barrel including the head sticks out 25-30 mil wider than the bottom square of the barrel i don't know who made this conversion or what to pay for it if at all any advice on price and who made it and whether it's any good would be welcomed. Colin
  9. Hi sparks 2 Ted first bike the one i have reg no is MAU 113F i have had this confirmed by Ted his self, the other rider Ted's team mate riding vertually same bike as Ted was a guy called Malcolm Barnes from Barnetby-le-wold North Lincolnshire. he was the top rider in the area at that time his bike was registered TRA---F i actually rode this bike and when Malcolm sold it to Chris Nieman i was at tech college with Chris,Chris loaned me the bike and to me at that time after Malc and Chris had basicaly sorted it out it was fabulous to ride, been the 230 race motor de-tuned was very fiece and there was nothing to catch it on the road my riding buddy at the time as we had both just started riding trials him riding a Norman me riding a 61 Dot my Dot had blown the big end and crank was away been repaired so Chris loaned me the Pennine unbeknown to my mate on the Sunday morning been as we riding the bikes to the trial he turned up bright and early him still thinking i was riding the Dot he got the shock of his life when i pulled the Ossa out,Graham my mate turned on his heel jumped on the Norman and disappeared i shot into the house got my jacket and boots etc, dashed out fired up the Ossa and set off after him took me a 2 or 3 miles to catch him up,when i overtook him and left him for dead i shall never forget the looks on his face. Incidently i was runner up at that trial i was beaten by a Gaunt Suzuki 120cc sadly come the Monday i had to take the bike back to Chris,Chris sold it on and bought Malcolm Barnes second Ossa and i have never heard anything of them since i have spoken with Macolm Barnes this year and he has no idea to what ever happened to either of them,Chris Nieman emmigrated to New Zealand of which i have never seen him since Regards Colin
  10. Hi John what state is the carb body and slide in are all the bolts there bolting the crank cases together don't know your engine casing layout, are the crank seals direct into the crank case halves, is there any damage or cracks in there versinity also what state are the crank cases in general is it a good sealed joint between barrel and crank case and good sealed joints from carb, manifold to barrel. try these, other thing i have heard of was pourus crank cases but was on the old style two strokes. Hope this helps Colin
  11. Hi John as i work in the motor trade any engine needs three things air, fuel, and means of ignition ie spark if it's a petrol engine these three elements have got to be in the right order ie timing (suck, squeeze, bang) in your case for the engine to run away youv'e got to be getting fuel and air from somewhere as you say the slide in the carb is not sticking open so it can't be getting more fuel therefore youv'e got to have an air leak somewhere, the only thing iv'e had was an ossa that ticked over when cold but as the engine warmed up the tick over increased this was down when traced to a badly worn slide and carb body work on the engine methodicly to isolate the fault to a fuel and air problem you can rule out the ignition side. Hope this helps Colin
  12. Hi David I presume you haven't actually run your motor with the big barrel any idea whether it's worth considering a big bore conversion and any idea the cost of these conversions. Who is now making these kits. thanks again Colin
  13. Hi Total shell point taken, but when you hear of and see cubs anywhere from 200 to 290cc, bsa units anywhere from 250 to 490cc, bantams stretched anywhere up to 230cc the old 8 and 9e's opened up to 225cc there must be something to this over boring lark and i was basically thinking aloud on what is available for the A series villiers.I have a bottom end sat here and need a top end for it and looking at some of the prices they asking for cast iron barrels let alone the alloy square barrels i was interested to find out what else is available that is why i posted the question. thanks again Colin
  14. Anybody tried or have knowledge of the big bore kits for the villiers A series bottom ends.Ive been told that you can get them out to 350cc is this correct.Who makes these conversions and what sort of a price, will the crank/big end, clutch and gear box stand the extra power and can you get away with rejetting standard amal carb. Is it a worth while conversion cos i'm thinking along the lines of building a jimmy with one of these engines. Colin
  15. Hi Grumpy fanatic i can't seem to put any photos on at the moment but if you email me on pauline.thompson3@virgin.net i will send you photos before and after. My bike is the breffitt first Ossa mau 113f in silver if you can remember him and the bike, big sutton falcons club rider.I first saw Ted and the silver Ossa in 1968 at the Porlot Quarry Derbyshire trials Porlot wasn't one of my favourite venues in those day's as i had just started riding trials on an old round tube Dot (didn't go over the rocks very well) look forward to hearing from you again.Colin
