  1. Nothing to do with this thread Ralphy but I spent a fews weeks in NZ last April and had a week in Taupo in a resort off of the Napier road. You live in a lovely part of the world!
  2. Have you got the later model carb on it? That might explain why it runs better with the air screw 3-4 turns out.

    Exhaust Clean Out

Don't use caustic soda to decoke your aluminium mid box, it will eat through it in no time!

  5. As above. But I use any cheap engine oil (10/40 - 15/40 - 20/50 etc diesel or petrol as it doesn't matter) and mix it 50/50 with clean paraffin. Run the engine up on a paddock stand without the chain on and go up and down the gears a few times (using the clutch to clean the plates off) and then leave it in top with the tick-over turned up until the fan kicks in (10 - 15 mins). Drain the oil/paraffin mix out (with the clutch lever pulled to the handlebar to separate the plates) and any crap that's in there comes out as is out for good! Re-fill with your chosen gear oil and I can guarantee it will stay cleaner for longer.
  6. I've recently changed the fork seals and replaced the oil on my 2003 315R and used the oil quantities recommended in the workshop manual without any problems, so what are you on about? Are you sure you understand what the manual says? If so (or not), what oil quantities do you recommend then, and why are you right and Honda/Montesa wrong?
  7. As we all know Caroline has been known to reply to some of the questions that arise on this website. I dare say that if she has anything to add to this topic in the fullness of time she will indeed put finger to keyboard, as they say!
  8. I watched the final round of the world trials championship from France on Eurosport 2 this morning and it was very entertaining. BUT....... I don't recall seeing any of the contributors to this thread riding any of the super duper highly modified and lightened world round conquering machines that are being discussed here? Perhaps they are best left at home in the various garages around the country, or maybe in the hands of those best qualified to ride them on the world stage.
  9. Keep your eyes on Ebay over the next few weeks, as someone at the shop you bought the bike from probably 'alf inched it and if they are really that rare, would be looking to sell it for a tidy sum!

    315r Clutch

You should try ATF. (Automatic transmission fluid) It is cheap, available just about everywhere and it works a treat. I've been using it for years in a variety of bikes (including my 315R) without any problems.
  11. I've just fitted Boyeson Duel Stage Reeds to my 03 315R which has the standard DellOrto carb and if you believe the fitting instructions they tell you that they cause the bike to run weak at the bottom end and rich at the top end and so you should re-jet accordingly. When I first got the bike it had a 33 pilot and a 108 main and knocked like f*ck at the bottom end of the revs just as the throttle is opened, so I run it on Shell V Power and an Octane Booster and Amsoil Saber Pro @ 100-1 and changed the jets to a 36 pilot and 110 main and raised the needle one clip position and run it on which completely cured the knock but did make it run a bit rich mid throttle. The tick over has always been a bit eratic and so on closer inspection of the original carbon reeds discoverd that they weren't shutting fully and so must be a bit tired. So instead of just turning them over I decided to buy and fit the Boyesons. Instantly much better and very responsive, and so the final settings after a bit of lucky guesswork are 36 pilot 108 main and having run it for a short road trip on the middle clip position, felt that it was running a bit weak mid throttle and so raised the needle again one clip position and after another short trip on the road have now decided that these settings are spot on. I forgot to mention that the needle is a D49 and the air screw is currently set at 3 1/4 turns out. Perfect! Having now ridden a trial I've have reverted back to the middle clip position for the needle as it felt as though it was running a bit rich mid throttle.

    Chain

OH GREAT! I've just bought a chain and sprocket set for my 315 from BVM, and guess what, they supplied an IRIS chain!
