  1. Does anyone hit the stock kill switch with their body and kill the engine? I seem to have a knack for doing it at the wrong times.
  2. Agreed. I couldn't figure why the fan would not come on. It's been cold so wasn't too worried. The rad seems to have to be filled right up to the top of the filler neck. Then the fan operates normally.

  5. I just had a bit of a problem with my rim strip but I've got it licked now with some of the information in this thread. First off the tire was leaking. No dog turds here, so I installed a rubber patch on the inside of the tire (small little puncture). Now the second time I mounted the rim strip, I applied tire lube to the rim where the strip goes. I used a small paint brush and got a good amount in there. Then I dunked the strip in the tire lube and the valve. I put the valve through the strip and the rim and attached the nut very loosely only to locate the rim strip. I'll get to why in a moment. Then I got the rim strip around the tire and in the groove. Next I fitted the rim strip in around the valve stem about 20 cm. Turned the tire around and worked from opposite the valve to the valve on one side getting the rim strip in the groove, then did the other 1/2 of the wheel towards the rim strip. Next I did the same thing from opposite the valve to the valve on the other side of the rim strip. The rim strip fitted in very easily with just my fingers because of the lube that was all over. I work the rim strip towards the valve so that the pressure of my fingers tend to push the rim strip towards the valve so that the hole in the rim strip is not elongated at all. I noticed it was an oval when I removed the strip after the 1st try. Tightened up the valve and using lube on the tire, installed the tire. The tire almost goes on by hand with the lube. Just one lever action and the tires on. With a tie-down strap tightened around the circumference of the tire and a shot of compressed air the tire started filing and then, pop - pop, it's beaded. Took the wheel back to the bathtub for air check. It's good! Release pressure to 4 lbs and test again. It's good. I can do tubeless tires now!

  7. So where do you buy a chain with a 1/2 link? Do you need a rivet tool to put on the 1/2 link? Inquiring minds.....
  8. So that funny looking link that I noticed yesterday on my stock chain is a half link? Instead of the sides of the link being on the outside 1/2 of the link in on the outside and the other 1/2 is on the inside. What chain do you have to buy for the Sherco that comes with the 1/2 link?
  9. That's the main problem, as well as trying to squeeze it over to the muffler. Lot's of good suggestions here. Thank you for your input.
  10. Even though I can't see the back of the carb because of the mud flap, I can get that on OK. It is getting the mounting screws back into the airbox without cross threading them that is the issue. It seems that the airbox needs to go closer to the carb for the holes to line up. I got it back together OK but put the front tire up against the wall so I could push the airbox forward and line up the bolts. It took me way too long and I even got hand cramps doing it. So it gets easier does it? I hope so because I don't want to ever wash my bike again
  11. How do you clean the inside of the airbox after putting the oil in it? I have a Sherco and the holes into the airbox don't allow for much cleaning action through them.
  12. Thanks guys, I feel a lot better that it isn't just me with the airbox. I'll try those ideas next time I have it off. It looks like the rubber weatherstriping is glued on with a hot glue gun? Is that what I should use to glue it all on? I like the drain idea and will consider that in the future depending on how much water gets in there and how often. Take the carb out with it sounds a little technical. Kidding, I should check that out. My spark plug is a nice coffee color, and the bike runs cleanly. Does elevation make much difference on these bikes? It works good at 3,000ft but I do ride up to 6,000ft or a little higher. I found that the plastic sheet that slips between the airboot and airbox to completely obliterate any vision of the carb / airbox junction. I appreciate the tips.
  13. I just got a 2005 Sherco 2.9 Trials bike. I did my first mechanical work on the bike. Wow, what is the trick to getting the airbox back on ?? I had to loosen the muffler and before the airbox would go back on. There must be a trick to it?
  14. I use the Renthal Soft compound 1/2 waffle grips. They are nice It still makes a difference what gloves you wear. The best gloves (for not getting blisters) that I have are the 2003 Thor Core gloves. They don't bunch in the palm area at all.
