I’ve just been diagnosed with a DVT and told that I can’t ride for the next six months due to the increased risk of internal bleeding so it’s time to restore my RTL, Pentax TLM and RS.
On the HRC engines the casings are painted with a dark gold colour which I’d like to use when restoring the bikes. I think that I remember the Montesa Cota 315 had similar colour casings as well.
What I’d like to know is:
What is a near colour to the HRC gold casings - referring to paint that I’d be able to get in the UK?
What would be the best type of paint to use on the casings?

Thanks for the response with the colour name. I’ve resprayed the casings before so, unfortunately, there isn’t any of the original paint visible.
In the past I’ve used Halfords tins of paint, but it rubs off quickly and flakes. So should I use etching primer, twin-pack, heat the casings and then dry in the oven (her indoors will be impressed
) or are there any other clever tricks?

Blimey! I know that Electron (similar material to magnesium) used on racing AJS crankcases and casings were "argenised" but that was a graphite coloured finish.
I don't know how they coated magnesium casings.

Sorry I know it was a stupid question but I just did'nt think the cases were painted I always thought it was some kind of special coating put on to protect the magnesium.
