Hi Rabie,

Very interesting!

1955 was actually J V Smith (Jeff Smith of BSA fame)

Two... no three Scots recipients I see, Tommy Milton Jnr of the Melville club )now lives in USA, New York State); Gordon Philip of Forfar & District (still lives near Forfar) and latterly Paul Chatham from Edinburgh the enduro rider.

Thanks for the post Rabie, congratulations to Alexz Wigg, a worthy winner.

Big John, as a matter of interest, do you know the history of the Pinhard Trophy (how it came about) and what it means to win it please?

Not a great deal, as it was instigated a long time ago by the Sunbeam Club and basically it was for meritorious motorcycle activity to a person under the age of 21 years. To encourage involvement or some achievement in motorcycle sport. I am not sure of the exact wording, maybe there is someone "down south" who will be able to fine tune my comments there!

Ralph Venables was a member of the Sunbeam MCC and was a great exponent of the Pinhard Prize, sadly he died on 4th February 2003, but he knew a hell of a lot more than I ever will!

I know that a lot of people were really happy when Tommy Milton Jnr won it in 1967 as that was the very first time a Scotsman had won it. Tom was a real enthusiastic member of the Edinburgh Melville (as was his father Tommy before him). Tom Jnr now lives and works in the USA. He rode an Ariel a couple of times in the SSDT and helped organise many Melville events.

Hope this helps...
