I have no knowledgs of any non-affliated clubs in Scotland.
Your nearest club is Bon Accord,(SACU affliated of course) Click Here You can enter a trial on a day licence @ £20 (2 trials like that and the full licence is paid!) D.

Hi pelham14,

There are definately no motorcycle clubs in Scotland that promote trials events that are not affiliated to the Scottish ACU.
"idmcc.sec" is correct in that you can buy a day licence for £20, but even if you "sample" two events, that will have effectively paid for a competition licence that will allow you to ride until 31st January 2008.

The £42 includes riders capitation fees as well as the supply of an ACU handbook.

Is capitation anything like de-capitation?

Pardon my ignorance, but is £20 not a bit steep for a one day licence when it's coming close on to 50% of the annual cost. What's the justification for this?

It's done "to encourage riders to take out an annual licence"...

Thanks for your reply but my point really is after joining a club, paying for a licence and paying the trial entry fee the cost is about £45 and I may not even be able to complete a trial. I am surprised there are not 100's of people who would like an occasional ride and would be prepared to pay a small fee to cover any club expenses but do not want ripping off by the SACU.

Your entry fee to the trial covers the club expenses including insurance in case you mow down an innocent bystander.
Licence fees are outwith the clubs' control - includes capitation fee and ACU handbook.
What always surprises me is that a rider can spend into the thousands for a bike and all the gear then bitches at the cost of riding legally!!!!! D.

Slapshot has hit the nail squarely on the head, the SACU don't really want to issue one event or day licences at all. They would much rather have competitors ride more events for £42 than a one-off. By the way £42 divided by 52 weeks equals 80 pence per week - Simple as that!

As for the comment about being ripped off by the SACU, think about this, my youngest son has just signed up for one year at American Football, cost for 'licence' - £75. Passport photograph etc etc, before you get to play the game.

Played a round of golf recently? It costs money as well, say no more.

And...It just takes one small accident to activate a potential multi-million pound claim irrespective of how often you compete.

Any sport costs money nowadays, end of story.

I don't want to get in a slanging with BJ but I was going to say you can go to a golf club, pay a fee, play your golf and no licence required but I can no longer be bothered with any of this so stuff the trials.

I don't know why its so much more in Scotland than England but its still cheap by my reckoning. You want to try paragliding (legally) £80 and the same again for a dual licence, club fees are 20 - 30 quid and I'm in 5 of 'em! I part with about £250 a year. Trials ACU licence cost me £20 - for me and my boy - amazing value!
