Did anybody else receive an email from Emma Connop at the ACU today?

If you did, I've now got your email address and you've got mine along with the other 500 addresses that were publicised for all to see/use/abuse in the CC: field!

Can anyone confirm that the email is actually from the ACU? It smells very spammy to me and the mail headers look a bit suspicious (different from and reply-to addresses, peculiar routing...)

I've now got one from emma connop at the ACU.

By clicking on the attachment, pages of adverts open up from a company called Calsport. Everything Calsport sell is aimed at road racers,

Now I hate to be critical and I'm sure this was done with the best of intentions but...

Everything Calsport sell is aimed at road racers, I must admit I find it a bit strange that the ACU are using trials affiliated members details to send out what is basically spam.

Or am I being a bit unfair?

No you are not being unfair. This WAS unsolicited e mail and in my book that is the definition of SPAM.

I think John Collins should at least comment as to why our details are being used for SPAM purposes.

Not happy. OK no body died but it's not right is it :D

It's just a pity they targeted members with trials affiliation with something only useful to roadracers.

Surely the quarterly glossy magazine would have been the appropriate method to pass on such an advert.

Just because i give someone my e mail address so that they can advise me that my license has been recieved, is being processed, has been despatched etc doesnt give them carte blanche to send me unsoliceted advertising that i did not indicate i was interested in receiving.

Looks like the spam filter will have to be brought into action. Shame as you never know, doubtful i know, the ACU might just send me something useful for once? :wall:

Surely there must be more cost effective ways of stiffening up your suspension than viagra?

AFAIK the ACU don't spam you intentionally, and don't sell the members database to anyone

thus I'm sure this is one of those renaming scams to make it look legit - it would be nice if someone posted up the headers

if this is however some sort of intentional spamming operation I've enough contacts to rock the boat to stop it happening again :D
