Is it just me or are things getting out of hand?

This A series Villiers engine has just gone for £847 on ebay. It only has an iron barrel and doesnt claim to have a full circle crank, trick gears or ignition. Surely they are not yet that rare with the likes of Nametab and Villiers Services stocking everything we need.

I dont have a problem with the seller getting the best price he can or even the buyer paying that much but at this rate, it could trigger the beginning of the end for the pre-65 movement as it will be cheaper (not to mention better value) to buy a modern bike.

The buyer was from Italy ..... so it would have cost a lot for transport aswell.

Even if he thought it was worth it, euros or not - at least one other person had to be bidding nearly that much as well or it would have gone cheaper... Scary!

It's been cheaper to buy a modern bike for a long time. Have you actually priced up building a competitive pre 65 bike? I darent cost my two but i know ALL the savings have dissapeared and i now have a massive overdraft for the first time in my life

The only thing that gives me slight comfort is the thought that the bikes will hopefully keep their value, but that is different to their cost, unlike a Modern bike that depreciates at an alarming rate.

So for the moment i am happy to see prices like that. However the bubble is about to burst.

Then watch twinshocks prices really swell. Ossa's are already way over priced and Fantic 240 are going the same way. A non runner will easily fetch £400 +

I would have to agree. Whatever the reasons to ride a pre-65 bike...price advantage is probably not one of them! Depending on the bike you can only hope the money that goes into it will impact it's overall value at the end of the day. Old is not necessarilly cheaper and I've heard a few comments lately how early monoshocks are actually more favourably priced and a better value then some of the classic 70's twin shock machines! :banana2:
