I read and see the stator going on Betas is it just a unlucky few??Once there fixed is that the end of the problem or is it ongoing problem?I'm thinking of getting a Beta, Scorpa or a Sherco.

I have had several Beta's and been lucky to not have a stator go, however, as soon as one person has one go then another it is a domino effect and it becomes a major problem.

Yes there has been a problem with them, but certainly not a massive percentage!!!!!

There are niggling problems with every bike (4RT exempt :D ), and the word gets round and gossip spreads....................

Beta or Scorpa both good bikes so you won't be disapointed with either.

ive had both betas and scorpa's both very good bikes yes had problem with stator on beta but not a problem as lampkins just change them under warranty :D so dont worry if you decide to go with Beta as normally very reliable, build quality on scorpa's are very good

Stator problem is bad enough that most of the Beta riders in NSW have jumped ship because of the ongoing problems the last few years, and complete denial of problem from importer.

Uk Riders obviously getting better support from Lampkin.

I got sick of the hassles with my Beta and went Scorpa. Never looked back.

Same here on my new '04 Beta.

Lampkins were brilliant, but TWO stator failures in five trials finished it for me. You're unlucky to get one go, and really unlucky to get another go. But it happens.

Have been riding Beta since 1992 and never had an electrical failure. (seven rev3) We also have never seen a stator go bad in our local club. We also seldom have water sections or much moisture. Have always wondered if it was somehow related.

I'd had Beta's for years too. The 2004 model was my first Rev3 after years of Technos which never once let me down. The Rev3 did... twice and although it didn't cost me apenny, as I said Lampkins were brilliant, I did loose faith in it. It's a horrible feeling when you drive to a trial, sign on, fill it up with fuel and...... nothing.

When I asked around, every other person who owned a Rev3 had also lost a stator. It certainly isn't a fluke failure on Beta's between 2003 and 2005.

Three Rev-3's for me and no stator problems. I also don't know of anybody who has had a problem. I wonder about the moister thing too, It's usually pretty dry here, but I have done a few mud rides. If I didn't read Trials Central I would never even know there was a issue.

Just go to the search facility on the front page of this website, type stator and press enter, It will call up an article by John Lampkin Imports on machine prep for the SSDT, in this article it is stated that there is a problem with stators on 2004-2005 bikes.

I know several people who have had problems with Beta stators (we do a lot of waterwork in the NE Centre) all of them will tell you that John Lampkin Imports respond superbly to stator problems, replacing them immediately without question, unfortunately sometimes more than once, however, many no longer ride Beta, breakdowns on a trials bike don't always happen conveniently close to the car park and once you've pushed back a couple of times for the same reason, you can fancy another bike.

I have heard of people taking the stator to local re-winders and paying to have them re-wound, reputedly that's the end of the problem.

Exactly the pooint I was trying to make, the second time mine packed in I thought enough was enough and part ex'd it against a Scorpa the very next day.

I was speaking to a very well known Beta rider last year and he said that the problem was 99% cured on 2006 bikes onwards, however he still carries a spare one with him in the van to every event.

Apparently.... The best cure is to change the whole ignition system for a non Beta part, these are available from any good dealer. But obviously not cheap and not a brilliant thing to have to do if you have a new bike.

I've had a 1999 techno for quite a while now, and the Stator coil went before xmas.

Got it re-wound at West Country Windings, within a day of sending it off, and I've had no problems since.

Just a bit unlucky when it went, but now taking note of advice on here, and removing the Stator cover after every ride.

All the best.

:D
