Was planning on pulling the pipe and give it a good cleaning. Anything to know about, tips/trick /precautions/warnings, specific to this bike?? I've never dealt with a "mid pipe" before. Is there anything in it?? Whats the prefered cleaning technique. Old school gasoline and a match?? Blast it with a good torch?? Roast it on the barbie?? I know about repacking, how easy/bad is it to pull off the pipe??

Ok so does the pipe come out in 3 sections?? I got the silencer off and it looks like the mid pipe seperates from the head pipe but damned if I can get the head pipe to come off the mid pipe. Looks like the head pipe slips into the mid pipe and is held in place with some orings. I left the mid pipe in place and tried to take the head pipe off by pulling and twisting the head pipe towards the front of the bike. Not really budging. I'm guessing the pipe hasn't been touched since new. Word up on getting this focker apart!! Am I doing this right??

Thanks!!

Well I got it apart. but not before I raked my knuckles across the water pump hose hose clamp when the head pipe finally let go. Guess it would have gone faster if I knew how to swear in Italian. There was a reddish caulk that was used on both ends of the mid pipe along with the o rings. What is this stuff and do I need to use it to get a good seal when I put things back together or can I just go with the o rings??

Mine have always just been slide together come apart nice and easy!

I would guess someone has tried sealing them due to the O-rings being knackered? Personally would clean it all up but new seals and just slide all back together

Anyone know how the mid pipe is constructed?? Is it just the aluminium outer pipe with the metal screen inside and nothing but air between the screen and the outer pipe? Or is there some kind of packing between the screen and the pipe?? I put a little gas in the mid pipe. very little actually didn't even have any come out the other end of the pipe. Hit it with a plumbers torch to get it going. got a pretty good chimney effect going and let it be. Damn thing burned long enough that I got a little nervous and put it out. . It showed no sign of going out anytime soon. I've torched several dirtbike pipes and they never took so long. I was starting to wonder if maybe there is something else in there and it should not be torched. Anything in there to worry about or should I fire it up again and finish the job???
