Hi All,
Has anyone managed to get the bottom end off of a late 06 Shock?
This is the shock with the grub screw, pictured.

I’m trying to fit a new, lighter spring but I can’t get the end off. I guess it’s held with a Locktight thread seal, or something. But I can’t be sure.
Anyone know how I can get this end off?
Best of balance.

Loosen the allen screw and the ring should screw off. If some one tightened the allen to tight it will take a little effert to get the ring past the lightly damaged threads.

Sorry...just to clarify this.
I mentioned the grub screw as a way of identifying the late (year) 06 Shock.
It's the bottom end I need off, not the Spring compression ring.
Sorry for the confusion.
Best of balance.

Neo,
I have never had to change one, yet the same mystery has puzzled me!
It only makes logical sense that the shock end must unscrew from the body which would require a strap wrench or something to hold the body while using a rod as a lever through the eye to turn it.
Makes sense, but I have not tried it and have no idea how much torque would be required even if I am correct!
Hopefully some others can help shed some light on this!

Hi Neo,
If you want to swap the spring, think of removing it from the top instead of the bottom. No need to unscrew the bottom end at all.
If I remember well :
Once you loosen the allen of the spring compression ring, unscrew that compression ring completely so it falls on the bottom end. Your spring will then be loose so you can access the top of the unit, where is a kind of circlip holding the top ring. Once you undo the circlip, the top ring will be removable and then you can pull out the spring this way.
