Thinking of buying a 2008 Beta 4T. Just like some information on living with the bike.

Are the tappets easy to adjust?

Outside of the normal maintenance & oil changes are there any things to watch out for or maintain regularly.

Anyone had any big problems?

I have 2 Rev 4's and absolutely love them. Oil changes do take a little more time, but no big deal. I have had one for 8 months and one for 6 months and I have not had any problems with either of them.

The gaskets on the head took a couple of weeks to seat fully and during that time I had a little seepage where the head joins the jug, but nothing major. It took me a little time to adjust to the 4 stroke since the last one I owned was back in 1973 (TL125), but I've been able to make my 2 stroke style adapt to the 4 stroke. I would recommend the Rev 4's highly!

They may be easy to adjust, once you get to them! I have been eyeing mine, and don't think that it will be possible to do without dropping the engine down, in the frame. The way the radiator, and front down tubes are made, it appears that you could rotate the engine down, while still connected at the swingarm pivot, and then make your adjustments. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually done the job.

As far as living with the bike, I love mine. Prior to the Beta, as far as 4-strokes go, I had a Scorpa SY175F, followed by an SY250F. Overall, I much prefer the Beta. The oil changes are slightly more time consuming, in that you have to remove and clean the two filter tubes, in addition to changing the main oil filter. But, it is only a matter of a few extra minutes, which seems worthwhile for the extra protection it brings.

Build quality is excellent. Mine starts, and runs great, with no problems at all, much less "big ones".

hi to check valve clearances you have to drop the engine down you can disconect everything and pivot engine down on rear bottom engine bolt

I have had a couple of the Rev 4's, they work realy well, build quality is second to none. As far as valve adjustment i've done it a couple of times and it's easist for me to : Remove the skid plate .( give's you a chance to clean under the motor and trust me your going to want if off ! )

Remove the pipe : only takes 2 minutes

Drain the radiator: now you will understand why you took the skid plate off, might as well change the oil now also.

Loosen the carb at the front manifold , the motor will pivot away from the carb

Remove the frame down supports, radiator- leave the coil on the radiator just unhook the wires, motor mount bolts-- then I pivot the bike and motor on

the swingarm by pushing the back tire down about 8 inches, I use my tie downs to go from my stand to the chain adjusters and that will hold the bike

steady. Then you can push the motor down to the stand, you now have access. Takes me about 3 hours and a couple of breaks to complete.

Once you have done it you will see it's a pretty easy job. I know there is other ways guys have done it, but this works for me.

I have an 08 Rev 4 - in my view the best trials bike I've ever owned, out of many.

No major issues - had some starting difficulties, but I think this was due to a sticking kill button. Replacement on the way.

I've also burnt my legs on both the rear silencer (despite the guard) and the header pipe (in a crash) - currently trying to locate guards for both.

Maintenance straightforward, although I was lazy and had a mechanic do the tappets. They didn't need adjusting.

One mod I've done, that probably applies to the Rev 3 as well, is to replace the rear brake lever/rod retaining clip, which is easy to knock off with your boot, with a screw, nut and washers - cost pennies.

Bought the machine after a painstaking survey of all the 4 strokes available - the Rev 4 seemed to be the best one for my needs and my ability. Another + point is that tuning parts are now available should you want to change things.

Last but not least, don't know your location, but I've found the support from Beta UK to be first class.
