Ty175

I have a standard TY175 which has been lying around the garage for some time unused as I also have a scorpa 250 and because the TY is a little bit on the small side. I was thinking about selling the TY however I started her up and had a little pootle about and realised that I love that little bike and for the couple hundred pounds it cost me its great just to have about. So, my question is has anyone modified a TY175 to make it a bit more comfortable to ride, lower foot pegs, longer swing arm, don't really want to spend the money but what difference do the majesty frames make etc? I'm 5 11 tall and just feel as if I am hunched over a bit when I ride it (I don't walk hunched over you understand...). Any suggestions welcome.

Hi David.

Simple solution, but might work. You might want to try getting some bar raisers and changing the angle of your bars too. Depends on how far youre hunched over like!

I'm not a mechanical guru, but many others on here will tell you how to go about it if you want to investigate it. Seems a bit of a shame to start hacking the frame about if a cheaper solution will work :D

I rode a TY175 at Kendal this year and my son had one for a while. The best things that we did are, fit the Miller footrest kit, drop the forks so they are flush with top of the yokes, fit 14" shocks and a set of 5.5 or 6" Renthal bars, If you do this then it transforms the riding position and the handling.

If you have deep pockets you could always add :-

Miller seat tank unit

full Wes exhuast

decent tyres

open up the air box a little

electronic ignition

200cc conversion

the list goes on and on

If you look into the airbox you will see that the outlet is restricted by the seating for the air filter, we removed the bottom and top seating and and threw away the filter, we also drilled a few holes in the lid then covered the opening on top of the box with filter foam and screwed the lid back on. This was something that has been done on the 250 for a while. The pilot jet was increased by 5. I cant remember if it was from 25-30 or 30-35 its been a while

Well you might have slightly reduced the pressure drop through the airbox, but the reduced surface area of the air filter media would surely cause a few issues if the bike ever gets ridden in dusty conditions.

Hi Scott, yes I did have to adjust the mixture screw as it was running a little lean due to the extra air,I then fitted some Boyesen reed valves which made it weaker still and ended up with the mixture screw nearly all the way in,so I then fitted the next size up on the pilot jet (27.5) and the mixture screw is now back out to about 1.5 turns.Now running out of things to do on it,I have just rebuilt a pair of wheels with some stainless spokes and they look pretty good even if I do say so myself, just aint fitted them yet.
