I recently bought a very pretty RS200T that does not seem to have been used much and certainly not for some years. I am re-commissioning it at the moment and have just noticed that the forks seem to be oil/alr and have a balance pipe between them. Does anyone know the viscosity of the oil needed, the volume and whether it should also take air and to what pressure if so?

I could do with a spec sheet on this bike if anyone know if they exist!
Cheers,

Jim

Anybody got this info? I could do with it too (especially oil capacity).
My balance pipe was leaky, so I plugged the tapped holes in the top nuts - if they are run at atmospheric pressure, it won't be needed anyway, and adding air pressure can only make the forks stiffer (with the same springs), which they do not seem to need.

Hi Roger, I have only seen air valves a couple of times on bikes - on the Beamish where you have oil and 15 psi or air and on my mates Bultaco where the valves aree to let air out ahd they are run at atmospheric pressure. I have filled the fork tubes iwth ATF to 160mm from the top with the spring out and the leg fully compressed. I have hot added any air and they seem good - will try them next weekend. Seems on-one has any information on these.

This was mine before I took all the expensive and irreplaceable bits of it!

Still no-one with a spec sheet of any kind? Not even a Seeley one?

Jim

Nice looking bike!

I have an owner's manual for a Seeley TL200E. Summarizing what you might be interested in:

Valve clearances - 0.07mm cold
ignition timing - 7 deg BTDC at 1950rpm, 27 deg BTDC at 3350 rpm
Plug - NGK D-6ES or D5-ES
Main jet - 105
Float level 21mm
Recommended oil - 10W40
Cylinder head nuts torque - 1.8-2.0 kg-m
Flywheel torque - 4.0-4.6 kg-m
Clutch outer torque - 4.0-5.0
Oil filter rotor - 4.0-5.0 kg-m
Oil filter rotor screen cap - 1.0-2.0 kg-m

Let me know if there is anything specificyou need to know, and I will see if it is specified!

Roger

p.s.Still do not know how much oil goes in the forks!

Roger,
Try getting the spec for a TL250, the forks are almost the same, so it would be close enough !

I only have a parts book for the RS 200 and 250.

Hi Roger, I put ATF to 160mm from the top of the compressed leg without the spring in, feels ok so far. I am trialing it this weekend and will start with 10 psi and see how she rides - I will let you know! Thanks for the information by the way.

That bike looks familiar! I spent many hours looking at a picture of it on a website where it was for sale, trying to think of a way of raising the money!
Bought this instead: Attached Image: post-2036-1224317706.jpg

Hi Roger, it was on a website for a while and it was big bucks! Took it out today for the first time and it started playing up when it got hot. It won''t rev past half throttle and starts to pop and bang. The plugh is new and I will obviously check the usual suspects but the last time I had a bike to this it was the CDI unit. Do youknow anyone who tests or repairs them?

Cheers, Jim

Hi Jim
Don't know about CDI testing, but Ian at Ellastone Offroad (01889 590186) is a good source of advice and bits for RS200s.
Ellastone trade on ebay as robbossrichdick(!) and have lots of stuff (mostly TLR)

p.s. The coil would be high on my list of suspects - could be the insulation breaking down when it gets hot.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the advice

Cheers

Thanks Roger, I will give Ian a ring. I know Ellastones - they have helped me out with quite a few bits recently. Luckily I took a second bike yesterday ahd finished the trial on my RS250TA. When I got back to the car partk I noticed that the kickstart boss had snapped on it, so I need to ring Ian about another kickstart anyway!

I haven't seen anyone else pop up with a RS200T here have you?

Hondapants has a very nice RS200t. He also does a nice line in stainless silencers for Seeleys and RS200s - I bought one recently, and it looks lovely in combination with a stainless pipe from Ellastone. Will post a pic when the bike is back together (shouldn't be long now...).
See his ad in the classified section if you are interested. (I have no commercial connection with Steve, just a satisfied customer).

Thanks Roger, I bought an original one from Paul Cook before he disappeared off the face of the earth! The one that was on the bike when I got it was far too nice for a man of my abilities to risk usuing - same with the original mudguards!

Still interested to find any specifications on tre RS200T, at least I now know of 2 other owners!

Cheers,

Jim

Thank you Chris Stevens, I know you read these but don't contribute - you were absolutely right about the carb float on my RS200T, one side is full of petrol and must be porous. I shall cure that problem and see how she runs!

Roger, the 160mm ATF from the top of the compressed fork and 10 psi felt good for the 6 sections I managed on the RS200T before it gave out, so it's a good starting point - I am 12 stone btw.

Cheers, Jim

Just dipped my float in hot water and sure enough, air bubbles everywhere. Anyone know where I can get a replacement?
