Just received my 3 handbooks today with the cover price of £8. Wouldn't it be better if the ACU instead of sending me three(one for ever licence i get mine and two kids) only sent me one and put the other £16 pounds to helping our up and coming young lads and lasses in one way or another. Its just seems to me to be a waste of my trials licence fee considering that two of the handbooks will more than likely get thrown in the bin without even been opened, their not much interest to a 13year old and even less of one to a 7 year old.

Not of much interest to this 45 year old either. So much unwanted info, would be a good idea to opt out. I am sure if there are talk of new/ changed rules it would soon crop up on here.

what about being able to down load the handbook? you could stipulate download on the licence application.

Good idea. Choose your sport and download required book. No need for all that other scrambling and road racing mumbo jumbo and save some trees. Jobs a good un.

If John Collins is looking in maybe worth bringing up next time you're up there

We'd all still have to have a set of the generic rules, lists of officials, costs, procedures and the National Sporting Code. I'd make a bet that it would cost a lot more to seperate the disciplines that it does to put them all in one book as now.
And remember, it is important that every competitor has the chance to read the rules so that they can sign on to ride an event.
I think it's a fair system, the cd version might suit some people fair enough, but it would mean the Clerk of the Course would have to take a lap top to the event to read it if needed.

at least you get a book down in Englandshire - still waiting for mine even though the SACU have my £54 and I have ridden a National trial - hope i didnt break any rules ;)
I have been told that we are getting CDs unless we ask for a book - does this mean we will get £7.75 back?

And what about the ACU magazine that Englandshire gets (I take it it's still published)?

I always tick "CD" and get sent a book anyway!

Scorpa3 is right, club officials need a printed copy to take to events, but most of us could just have a CD. That way we have more trees left to ride trials around :-)

Mine came today, judging by the snow you've had over at your manor, your book is still sat in a drift somewhere, stuck to a block of ice ;)

I have covered this many times before - so will not go over it all again. The only valid point some of you are making is that dupication ( getting more than 1 book is a waste) and that is true - but there will always be hiccups , especiallty when sent out by outside contractors etc - but - if it apears to be a major problem, rather than a fairly small number , then this needs to be looked at. But it is the numbers that are important. Not really a lot of good spending for example £5k on systems/staff to cut out duplication - if that unecessary duplication only actually equates to say £1k. It needs to be watched - but do not get over excited if you get a spare book.

If you are worried about cost of postage/bulk etc easy answer just request CD - which hopefully will replace many books as time goes by. Not so easy though for us to take to an event eg Officials.

Those who suggest splitting all the disciplines up - ie You just get a trial book, road racers get a road race book and so on - have you actually thought /enquired about cost of this about cost - or is it just a comment off top of head? There would still need to be - Sporting Code, Insurance details , Officials, Technical. Anti Doping stipulations - to which you all by law have to comply, Child Protectuion issues - to which by law we all have to apply and so it goes on.

It is very hard to assess all this if you are lucky enough to not have to be involved in any of it.

The FIM books arrive in this fashion - and we have to have about 5 books each .

If you ride - read the declaration you have signed - and then tell me how to protect ACU and its Officials - which are many of us - if you have not access to the Rules and Regulations.

The handbook - and its cost are a necessary contribution to show we are running a responsible and regulated sport - which can be proven to be fair and equitable to those who take part and even more importantly to give protection to those who give up the time to put on events we all enjoy riding in.

I checked today with the SACU office, the handbooks are ready for despatch to the SACU from the ACU suppliers, but the ACU are waiting for a supply of CD's, so they will be with competition licence holders in Scotland shortly.
