We run three big road trials each year with entries of over 100 riders. The take up of the ACU's optional road insurance for these events is; to be honest, worryingly low!

Please check your road insurance if you ride in road trials to make sure that you are covered whilst riding in a trial on the road. If you are in any doubt, pay the extra £9.50 to the secretary on the day. (Under 21's should contact the sec to confirm the cost in advance.)

I know this subject has been covered before, but many seem to carry on and ignore the risks of riding without the correct insurance. Is it worth the risk to save £9.50?

I understand that the ACU is looking at an annual 'road trial' insurance so that we can tax our bikes, I don't know how this is progressing?

Thanks for your co-operation with this.

Sorry to keep banging on about this, but it is really important. Please take a look at your policy to make sure that you are covered.
We are quite concerned that riders might be riding in our events and unknowingly are not covered on the road.

Cheers.

We have been working with an Insurance broker to offer advice and assistance to them in order for them to provide an annual policy which recognises that Enduro & Trials machines will be used on the road in some events while travelling between sections etc.

The cover is now available - and the broker knows exactly what we want - and it is with a reputable big insurance name - it also allows you to tax bike etc so I hope it is job done.

My renewal is due & I've called MSM for a quote. They're more expensive than my current insurer but taking RTA insurance out for the road based events I do makes them cheaper. They offer third party or third party fire + theft policies. Didn't check up on multibike policy though.

Multiply the number of road events you do in a year by £9.50. The one event insurance.

Is the new policy cheaper then?

If you do ten a year then you've got £95 to potentially save.

Just called MSN for a quote and got a bit of a shock, £251 TPF&T. At my age I was l hoping for it quite a bit cheaper than that, it would be £150 more than my present insurer. So allowing for a number of £9.50,s a year seems I will stay with current ins.

they must have heard about your riding ability or summat :dunce:

I've taken out a policy with them, not cheap but it saves me being daft & not paying for RTA insurance, how many more of us do that?

Was your quote around that figure then Perce? The girl I spoke to on the phone was surprised at the cost and double checked.

Got quote from MSN, and like others, was approx 4 times the cost of my present policy.

Yep, at that price if you do up to 15 road trials per year, you may as well pay the £9.50 on the day. And how many of us do 16 or more road trials per year I wonder?

It was just under £180, I've been paying £145 anyway so really it was a no brainer.
