Yes I do know Lee, I of course assume Lee Sampson
The god of trials riding lives arround the corner and has helped teach my son Duncan - but not recently as Dunc's has a broken hand
more importantly I would like feed back please 289 visits and 1 comment - does that mean they are crap or good
Going to Barnsley trial 15th March so should have them on Sunday PM - feedback would be nice

Hi,
I looked at your shots from Hawkstone,
You asked for comments, Well they don't have that "Punch" not really sharp.
I can understand some of the woodland shots being dark, thats slow shutter speed due to lack of light
But the ones taken in good light lark sharpness,
the exif data in your shots indicate a 17-85mm lens, does that mean you are using an DSLR?
This is the sort of sharpness you should be getting.

The photos on my website are low resolution jpegs 800x600
Yes a DSLR used and the old lens would only open to 4.0 giving severe restrictions in usual trials conditions - basically under cover of trees ie dark on the best days
I now use a 2.8 lens and it helps greatly but they are damned expensive. I can also push the ISO if required which usually is.
The shot by Ian is excellent no doubt about it (but high res to be fair). In the open 1,250 shutter speed. Its a damn good shot but I would have liked to have seen the pro shots - they are in a position to get Raga's face much better.
Since learned that for 99% of the time a trials photo is much better for being able to see someones face and also people prefer to have a wheel in the air (for their own vanity)
But the main control over trials shots is the darkness under the trees, and most riders don't like flash even though pro photographers don't give a hoot if they blind a rider.
Thanks for comments

I think most the pics I seen there looked very natural and would giv a good sense of the envionment in general, for say a club meeting or such. You always need some of that
If I am able to photo a actual trial, I will usually try to find a well lighted spot considering the sun and angles, where most riders must pass and I can get close enough to get indivuals faces and such. Not neccessarily anything special, just a good shot of the individual coming accross something. Some action, yet ? Not easy to meet! Some fill flash can be key if you want good shots, as otherwise oppertunities are limited. These can leave shadow effect.
I met Lee a few years ago now, at the WTC in TN. Top lad in my book! Would like to see him him back here sometime!
