I've been offered a Raga 05 300 in good condition. I have previously owned a standard GG 05 300 in the past and enjoyed riding it but suffered starting problems of which I never got to the bottom of. I was just looking for some advice on what to look out for as I think I'm right in saying this may of been the first year they produced the Raga? It obviously comes with the Keihin carb which gives it a bit more punch but I don't want it to be too much to handle despite riding Clubman Expert? Everything I've heard about the Ohlin shock makes it sound that it much better than the standard shock. And finally did the 05 Raga not have gold clamps like the 06/07?

Your opinions and advice would be appreciated!

Cheers

MJB

The 05 Ragas are real nice bikes. I know a few guys who added a flywheel weight and like it better for a smoother feel. As far as starting, they need a quick strong kick or you wont get far. I trust you know the drill. I use the NGK IX series plugs (Iridium tips) and feel they give a better spark at low coil output for easier starting (gapped to 0.022 to 0.024") I think these have the programmable ducati ignition as well, but you need a laptop and cable to change it.

Add a 06 clutch spring - for a 20% lighter clutch pull over 05. (GG changed to a thinner Belville spring in 06 and wasnt on the 05 Raga)
Use Autotrac II transfer case fluid for a touch more clutch slip. ATF for quicker hookup.
The ohlins gold shock is real nice as well (if its not shot - can be rebuilt though)

After you get it started...Make sure it shifts smooth (up&down) and the KS isnt notchy.

heres a 05 we sold - doesnt look like a gold crown to me.

Hi MJB,
The 05 Raga may have been the first 300 Raga, it didn't have gold triple clamps as far as I remember. Keihin carb allows the motor to rev highr, it is a smoother carb than the DellOrto 26 PHBL but does provide any extra punch, not sure if the 05 had Ohlins too, good shock though top bush wears quickly. Bike is great with a Hebo flywheel weight (750 gm). I'm on my second 300 Raga, brilliant bike, definate, noticable motor improvement in 2008 model from previous years. Hard starting on older 300's due to Ducati ign, needs pick up sensor moving closer in to the flywheel to approx 0.1mm air gap for improved hot start. I use 10T/42T for the older models gearing, std is a bit fast for me going up slippy creeks/becks/streams/burns.
Bye, PeterB.
