Would it not be better to have it emblazed on the back of your jacket? Is that then legal?

quite right number plates have very strict rules regarding size colour position and size and colour of lettering/numerals. each infraction carries fixed penalties (3 points 75 quid fine_) a typicla trials number plate probably breaks enough laws to get you banned if the copper has had a bad day

A few years ago a mate of mine rode his sports bike around with the bottom half snapped off. So he only had the topline of digets left on display. It actually looked like a private plate so he would get away with it. But if ever pulled then its was mearly broken and he'd just need to get it sorted and no fine.

Dont quote me on this but I have a feeling not having a number plate at all is less of an offence than an Illegal one,

And the winner is The Addict - it lasted 4 sections....

And that was the "illegal" small plate I fitted after all after all.
The mudguard would have snapped with a proper plate flapping about.
