What a bargain! 99000 yen is £700. 76000 is £538.

I have the answer!

I had extra flywheel weight fitted to my 4RT by a very clever chap called Jon Bliss. It absolutely transformed the bike, but don't tell anyone.

Jon makes the "Cotswold" twin shock trials irons too. Ring him on 01242 239055 (Cheltenham) and he will talk you through the mod.

Jordan 80, thanks for posting. Any chance you can get me an e mail address for Jon Bliss? That would save me from having to get up in the middle of the night to call him, as well as an expensive phone call from the states.

Okay, can anyone on that side of the pond come up with an email address for Jon Bliss/Cotswold? I'd sure like to contact him.

Sorry for the delay, My son hogs the PC. With the addition of the extra flywheel it takes the bikes' engine charateristics back to the late 70's/ early 80's. Much more grip in the muddy stuff due to the motor taking longer to slow down on a closed throttle. You can also pull a higher gear with no fear of it stalling. I'll contact Jon and tell him to get a bloody computer!

Jon charged me about £250 for the whole job. Some new gaskets, oil filter and oil. The bike looks no different from the outside but it sure rides different. I am 51 and started my trials riding in 1972 so no hopping about for me, just good lines and a smooth throttle. Jon also offers a clutch mod that really smooths out the action. The standard clutch setup is more like a switch, very annoying. I can now ride confidently while slipping the clutch in those tight situations.

The 4Rt may be an expensive purchase but the quality is fantastic. I bought mine s/hand in Jan 07, did the SSDT and trial it most weekends. It still looks nearly new. I've had two new GG's and they were worn out in twelve months. So overall the Mont saves me money, looks great, sounds good and will outlive me!

Thanks Jordan80.
It's a good thing that the Montesa will last you a long time. It's obvious you don't like acquireing Trials bikes!
