As the rear shock is not protected from mud etc i am looking for suggestions on a rear shock protector has anyone fitted something to this effect to an 09 sherco and where would you recomend is the best fixing point? Ive seen a few solutions on other bikes but nothing convincing for the sherco!

I've seen a few flaps glued on (temporarily !) but the thought of screwing into the airbox has put me off anything more permanent
For the last time...it's not 'SUPPOSED' to have a seat.

I put my shock on the opposite way round to standard, so where mud ect can get in is tucked away behind the airbox.

Yeah I'm the same, I think it would be ok to drill the airbox! But I don't want to be the one to try it!! Thought about glueing something on but that wouldnt last more than the first section I don't think, I have seen one where a guy had layered it down from the bit of the mudguard that laps over the airbox, screwing the rubber into there! Quite flimsey though! Did you used to get sealskins that went over the rear shock? Was maybe thinking along those lines!!!!

Hi Guys - I have used a piece of old front inner tube cut to size, wrapped around the shock, then zip tied
It seems to work well and is cheap.

I have studied this issue in the back of my mind for years now and have not come up with a perfect solution.
Even flaps, like the Beta go to hell in no time, thus I have not drilled the airbox.
Seems one cannot invert the shock on the '07 as clearances do not allow, although I do agree with him and would do it.
Not out of line with Daves suggestion with the rubber boot, I do believe a similar product could be easily fabricated out of a thin waterproof Nylon material that could easily be tied at the top and left open at the bottom of the spring for breathing, yet dirt mud deflection. This may take a bit of doing, yet is my current thought, short of any flap things.
Maybe I need to buy a sewing machine?
The ongoing test of the '07 has not produced any leakage from the totally exposed shaft and seal area as yet, but I do consider it a time bomb in mud conditions. Bottom line, can you keep the dirt away from the shaft and seals? Have something you can easily slide up to clean and inspect? Easily replace due to abrasion?
