Oddly the majority of yorkshire classic cub riders already own an amal so that they can ride in scotland ... Amal arent going to get rich of this rule change ..

Maybe the rule change was suggested because an appropriate carb is available .... ??????

You're right Alan.

The main driving force behind the change was to bring Cubs into line with all other classes now that Cubs can be made to run well on an Amal carb. Certainly the arrival of the 20mm Amal was a factor in the proposal being put forward (by two members, not by the comittee as a whole).

Alan Whitton's Cub pictured would of course continue to be welcome at our events - in the specials class. :thumbup:

I'm afraid oriental engined Cubs wouldn't be welcome.

Well at least that clarifies the current situation, a Cub can have a 2015 and onwards made carb which is a better quality improved design in a choke size previously not manufactured when the range was launched in 1967 for use on bikes made prior to the end of 1964.

Somebody must know a Doc Brown who drives a DeLorean, with licence plate OUTATIME.

The posts are replies to the carb question asked by duckwizard, forks and ignition systems were not mentioned,

Now that a British made carb is available which should hopefully meet the needs of Triumph Cub riders there is no point in buying a DelOrto or Mikuni but those people who have one of those carbs already now face the prospect of buying a different one and having to repeat the set up procedure, if the old model had been good on a Cub then why would some riders have a second carb as well?

A simple extension of your logic that parts manufactured after 64 should not be used, or are you saying pvl ignition is ok, but you have to use a monoblock . in which case 100's or riders need to replace their carbs

it has never been impossible to get a cub to run on a british made carb, being a democratic club, some 20 odd years a group of yorkshire classic cub riders managed to get a proposal passed that allowed cubs to use any carburettor. At that time the carb of choice was a second hand honda tl125 carb .Obviously cheap, and seemingly better wearing and requiring less frequent adjustment than an amal. No other 4 stroke was allowed this concession.

As all the major event regs do not allow this concession most of the yorkshire cub riders had to have an amal or villiers carb to compete. interestingly the two top cub riders in the club run on amals all the time.

To put all this in perspective , looking down the yorkshire results, there are less than 20 regular cub riders, at least 12 of these riders have ridden in scotland and have a suitable carb.. So less than 10 riders are affected. Only 9 members voted against the change at the agm.

If riders choose to stick with foreign carbs they are more than welcome to ride in the specials class..
