Hi,
I don't know whether I'm in the right section for this but can anyone recommend someone who can re-chrome my fork stanchions off a 1979/80 Montesa 349?
I'm in the Nottingham area.
Thanks in anticipation.
Andrew

Now that puts a slightly different angle on it. Can you remember who had them in stock? Thanks for the info.

I've never seen them new for Montesa's but they may exist. Philpotts do good work though, and unlike some of the companies advertising actually do the work inhouse.

...being in Notts Andy you could try this firm.......http://www.hardchromeplating.co.uk/ at Olerton (TEL 01623 862314) I have had several sets straightened and chromed there.. about £100 cash if I remember. They spcialise in hydraulic rams etc but do bikes as a sideline.

Thanks Andy,

The forks are still in the bike at the mo. I'll give them a ring when I get to taking them apart.

Another route is to use some stanchions of something else, I used some Honda VT125 stanchions from a breakers, they are 35mm diameter but need a couple of inches cutting off and the bottom end boring out for a couple of inches and a circlip groove machining in. They cost me £30 but I can do the machining myself.
So now I have as new stanchions from an 08 bike on my 200 Mont!! the top nuts give it them away though!!!

Thanks for the replies fellas.
IKB, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to keep the bike as original as possible and the only fault with the stanchions is the pitting so I think it will be a re-chrome.

Fivemeister. I used Calladines' about 20 years ago for some polishing. I must admit I didn't know they re-chromed forks. Well worth a call.

Thanks
Andrew

Yep, think this was the main business at one time - they just did my Fantic 240 stantions. There's a really good welder at Bilsthorpe as well - can do almost anything (WELLSPEK)
