Like many it appears; I have been through the get the bike insured TPF&Theft so I can register or tax it . Like many,... I suspect,,, I can't understand why my Evo is not recognised by the competitive search engine type insurers) and even when after trawling around for best deal with a broker/ insurer who will issue cover it seems I have to put up with them listing the bike as a grey import. I recall somebody saying it was something to do with the insurers having an ABI number for the particular model. Is this so? What is it? and (most importantly for those of us who want competitive quoting all in one place) How do we get this done by the insurers. We know the bikes are legally/officially imported by the various importers and then distributed by dealer networks just like new model cars etc. so what is the stumbling block. I.m sure individual importers would be delighted to provide proof to these insurance companies as it would be another selling point ( you know ..features and benifits routine). There must be one amongst us who knows why this keeps cropping up ( e.g the Evo has been around for a couple of years now ..the search engines can find rev3 model albeit as grey imports. so why cant we get these replacement models into the search engine databases?)

Chewy,

MSM Insurance, its all you need mate, TPFT cover including ULR and Legal Expenses if required! Covers you when competing in an event including Scottish Six Days; Reeth Three Day whatever!

Cover note issued within 24 hours of telephone proposal, can't say fairer than that.

Covered my 20 year olds' 4RT no problem.

Why try anywhere else? its been custom made for trials and enduro bikes only, no motocrossers and they insure up to £6,000 in value.

http://www.msminsurance.co.uk

If you fill in your details and e-mail them, they will e-mail you a quote back. They will cover you on the frame/VIN for 14 days to let you register the bike.

Nothing to lose, everything to gain!

Big John

Thanks for that John; we are aware of MCE .(nice guy good products)we only want to insure against; mainly ..theft....3rd party when observing ssdt...and riding to our favourite practice area. The point is that when I had a rev 3 and it was on the search engines I got fully comp for £75 with bells & whistles but not for competition..... I bought an EVO couldn't get a quote from Norwich union (incumbrent supplier) "because the bike doesn't exist" endede up with choices twixt trinity lane (bikesure) at £110.00 or( MCE ) redstar at £103.00... MCE came in at £188.00.
Of course it took a lot of time/crap going through the quotation procedures as well. My logic is simply that if the trials bike models were able to make it onto this ABI list and thus the search databases and thus exist, perhaps we who are too decrepit/too poor/unfit or unskilled enough to compete in those lovely trials any more should be able to get cheaper insurance , maybe leaving more dosh for actually spending on trialing. Look foreward to having a beer with you in May.

The rev3 used to cost about £3400 new, the Evo's about £4500 now. The insurance quotes will reflect the difference in prices between the two models.

£3850.00 I paid for 200cc. The point of my original post was to find out why (for example the Evo) is not recognised by search engines.. it's been around a fair while...so what is the reason?

I had that problem with a 2003 Scorpa which had been out several years the Insurance Company didn't recognise it?
Insured it as a Yamaha TYZ 250 :o
Won't help with the Beta issue, doubt they have the same problem with new road bikes?

I just insured my new 2010 250 Evo 2t for £115. TPF&T, all right I am old and have some no claims bonus from my CBR600rr that I sold last year but still not a bad price. Not as good a price as my Rev 3 2 years ago with Bennets £60, but Bennets will not insure the Evo, not on the list!. I insured it with Adrian Flux Insurance 08000838833, they specialise in kit cars/classic car/Mc insurance so they are not phased by bikes that are not on the insurance companys list.
