All sorts of thread form helicoils available here: http://www.uni-thread.com/, click on 'Helicoil Inserts & Taps' on the left hand side of the page.

Helicoiling is easy, if you can re-build a motor, it's really really really easy.

If you go to an engineering shop, for some reason it is very difficult and expensive

The trouble (in my experience) with Cubs is that owners replace the original cross head machine screws with Allen head machine screws, then apply a lot more torque than the threads can take - hence the stripped threads.

I'm not sure which cover you mean, but I'm guessing its the RH inner cover over the gearbox / oil pump / Camshaft drive.

That one is held on by four 1/4" BSF bolts of varying lengths.

A 1/4" BSF helicoil kit including the correct oversize drill tap and 20 inserts is yours for around £25 delivered from a well known internet auction site.

That will replace all four threads with a stronger than original reduced wear stainless steel thread, and leave you with enough spare inserts to do your mates bikes too.

It takes seconds, just measure the depth of the blind hole, mark the supplied drill to suit and drill out the old threads, do the same with the tap (don't forget to lubricate it) - I do both with a cordless drill in low gear, wind in the insert, break off the tang with the supplied punch and you're done.

Simples
