Once I had eliminated every thing fuel related I started looking at the electrics starting at the plug, plug lead, pickup sensor on the stator even eventually trying a new CDI and voltage regulator. But still no better. I ended up getting the stator rewound, as new it would cost over £400. The stator showed no sign of being damaged by the way. It came back fitted it all togther and it started 2nd kick and has done ever since.
I'm not saying you may have the same problem but if you have a mate with the same bike that wouldn't mind swopping bits around it might be worth giving it a go before forking out the cash.
My Pro had a Ducati ignition by the way so it was a lot harder to find a spare one on ebay etc. If you do get it rewound (roughly £80-£100) do not use West Country Windings! They had 3 goes at doing mine and I ended up sending mine to MotoPlat http://www.uk-motoplat.com/home.html a guy called Steve Hardaker will sort you out, what he doesn't know about stators isn't worth knowing
Good luck!

You can check its the same by checking the CDI under the tank/steering head. If they are both Ducati or Kocusan you could do a swap.

got it home and took of stator casing(black plastic one on gear change side)flywheel was pretty damp noticed before i took of there was a gap between casing and engine, gave it all a good spray with wd40 and put back on with some silicon smeared around to seal it,hopefully this will cure it...i will post up if it does after i go back down the river with it...
