Can't seem to get the cases split on a '01 2.9 whats the trick?

Obvious first question is, do you have all of the bolts out?
You will more than likely need a case-splitting tool to get them apart anyway. Motion Pro makes one that works very well.

When I split my 2000 2.9 I used Wayne's Helpful Manual

If all the bolts are out a rubber mallet applied with the right thunkage in the correct outward from center direction worked well for me.
