Hi

I知 after a bike to start doing some trials on, I would like something modern & reliable. (around 250cc)

My budget is between 」600 & 」800

What should I expect to get for that sort of money?

What would you recommend buying or avoiding?

Hi - just to pass on a few of my recent findings if that helps. I was lucky enough to buy my Sherco for 」600 on the well known auction site, but be prepared to spend a few quid at that budget. I have replaced a tyre, mudguard, bearings, brake pads, carburettor bits, a chain, prop stand, several cosmetic odds & sods and more recently a water seal. If you can find a bike at that level they appear to be good value, but beware, parts are expensive and i would probably have been much better off buying a bike for 」1-」1200 than 」600 + bits. On the plus side, its been fun and you can spread it over time.

I'm not well enough qualified to recommend a bike, but i do like my Sherco  Most people like me and other newbies ive seen seem to ride either Shercos, Gas Gas or Beta so maybe stick to those?

best of luck !!

Hi - it looks very nice, but have a quick sweep of the bike specific Gas Gas part of this site, or maybe pop a post on there and you are likley to get a better response. I dont know enough about Gas Gas to advise, but it looks good. From my (limited) experience decent bikes seem to pop up and go quite quickly. I bought mine on a "buy now" without looking at it (which i wouldnt recommend) although i did give the guy a call, i cant say i asked too many searching questions, but sometimes you can just get the measure of the people you are dealing with. i guess one thing you should be wary of is whether its stolen? again, a quick phone call and a few questions on history might help. I was relatively lucky, although a buddy of mine bought one on ebay (a bit cheaper) which turned out to be a bit of a dog, so ideally have a look. If it needs new tyres allow 」60-」70 each, plastics are also expensive. Bikes from further north may have had a tough time on rocks perhaps? I would have thought a 250 would do well, but not sure how old/big/experienced you are.

Hope these small thoughts help & best of luck !!
