Sadly you are wrong on both counts.

Had it not been for the precarious position of lord Grenvilles government (not unlike today) the law may not have been passed due to lack of support. It was a christian/humaniterian crusade essentially not government led at all.

Apartheid in the UK when exactly was that?

Why is voting for the government pish? You have your say and its a democracy, surely?

As far as any relation to the ACU your argument is spurillous and way off the mark. Its once a year for a few hours.

No one has the right to moan if they can't be bothered to go and air their views. I went, probably to the last one held and it was a very informative and open discussion, changes were made on the suggestions made that very day.

Aside from this John Collins and Mick wren are some of the straightest blokes I have met with the interests of our sport at heart, a far cry from this or any of are elected spongers. I am convinced that if anyone would like a subject discussed at a T & E meeting they simply have to make contact.

I don't recall saying Apartheid was in the UK although like fox hunting it used to be acceptable regardless of where, in regards the vote, due to the current first past the post system, the voting in the country itsn't quite what people seem to think, hence the "vote them out" reference, cause, regardless of how many people vote for a particular party up here (Scotland) the Government is decided by who votes for who down South

Couldn't agree more, both these guys have put a considerable amount of time and effort into the sport of trials over a great many years.

Talk of Slavery or Fox hunting or what-ever is way out of context.

The ACU offered a genuine chance for 'us' to put foward ideas for discussion about trials.

As a regular over 40 club rider said to me at our trial on Saturday "I'm happy with things the way they are, I ride my bike in a trial, have a good time and go home happy."

Judging by the lack of suggestions (the 125/175 point was a worthy one!) I guess we're fulfilling that wish on the whole and may as well keep things as they are.

Pete - i have just picked up your thread and its a shame the forum has been cancelled as some interesting points have been made. I am not sure if you are anything to do with the ACU or whether they are reading this(?) but perhaps rather than having a meeting, which a lot of people will find difficult to attend and/or daunting (for us newbies), why not have some sort of webdebate or consultation?

in my day-job we often have to participate in consultation exercises where a body asks a question and we might be given 2 weeks to respond. Couldnt the ACU do something similar starting with basic questions such as "how could entries be improved, is the capacity level right" etc etc and give members a week or two to respond? this can be bolied down to "live" issues and fine tuned to get some positive input. I think they might find that a better way to gauge responses than a meeting. if anyone agrees with me, perhaps it could be suggested to the ACU?
