Not sure what your questions is - the hub is not Magnesium.

Thanks for your response Alan, I was really just worried that if the hub was Magnesium it would start to corrode without any clear coat or paint on it. I guess I'll just polish her up. Jonny.

So I removed the rest of the silver paint with some gasket remover and polished the hub with Scotchbrite, 0000 steel wool and finally some Solvol- hub looks great but I see lots of polishing in my future.

hub is aluminium, the brake plate is magnesium

Agree. I had mine aqua blasted, and I'll leave unpainted. I'll protect with a wipe of ACF-50 used sparingly on a rag. It lasts a long time, and is redone every few months should be fine. http://motorcycleres...a-blasting.html

couldnt you just paint it with clear laquer to keep the shine without the effort

What is wrong with just painting TY hubs and backing plates with silver paint? It has worked fine for me for the last 35 years.
You put my Basil in the ratatouille?
