i am in the middle of putting new crank bearings in my 2000 280 i just have a couple of questions . do i use gasket glue and how do i set the timming thanks

Put the centercase gasket on dry and you do not have to set the timing, it's set mechanically and, under normal circumstances, does not change.

Probably ought to expand on the timing issue. Provided you marked the stator plate position, just set it back to it's original spot. Even if you didn't mark the stator, you usually can tell where it was by the depressions the mounting screws made on the plate so just center the depressions over the screw holes.

thanks for that i did mark the position the only thing now is i am having trouble getting clutch case on seems like kick start spring could be a problem any ideas ?

If you use the kickstart lever as a tool to push/turn/latch the racheting mechanism it's a little easier. I think there's usually a collar that acts to keep the coil spring from distorting and it usually has a slot in it that sometimes gets out of alignment and the shaft will not seat in completely.

you were spot on the spacer with the slot in had moved only a couple of hours untill i saw it now i have lost one of the spring clips that hold the piston in place have you ever done somthing ya wished ya had'nt started
