Buying a road registered bike...

Recommended Posts

Hi from a new member :icon_salut:

I'm going to buy a bike shortly and I've got my eye on a couple at a localish shop but they're both road registered. As I'm not going to ride on the road at all I want to avoid any unnecessary hassle, so what is involved in buying a bike with a V5? Do I just fill out the V5 as a SORN and nothing else?

Cheers

I don't think they do remind you when it is time to renew a SORN, presumably as they don't get any income from a SORN. I know a couple of guys who forgot for a short time and were fined, I think, £60. :(

After that I religiously put my SORN renewal dates in every new years' diary.

They dont remind you the thieving scumbags!

I filled mine in, posted it about a month ahead of time (about 2 years ago).

3 months later I get a snotty letter and a £80 fine.

I then chased around the b*stard DVLA for hours and hours trying to find someone to talk to and explain that I had filled in the SORN. Everytime you think you can speak to the next person but you cant! It's all a MASSIVE swiss and I'm 100% that the thieving b*stards use it as a cash cow especially if you dont post your SORN recorded delivery.

Since then I have not had a SORN reminder or a fine though.

Best bet, post using recorded delivery and do as Bultaco does and put in a reminder every year to stop the robbing @rses from fleecing you.
