Just noticed on my bike that the air box boot doesn’t seem to fit very well

I tried my best to get it to fit better but it seems that it needs to be 1/2 inch longer?

Is this correct, it has a rubber on the carb about 3/4inch long, which the plastic boot fastens to with a jubilee clip?

The airbox boot is really made to fit the Keihin PWK and is a little short for the Dellorto. The key is to clean all grease/oil off the donut/airbox boot, pull the carb out of the manifold, tighten the boot clamp securely and then lever the carb back into the manifold and tighten that clamp.

Much easier to lever the carb back into the manifold than try to lever the boot on to the carb.

I noticed this, too, in the process of sorting and familiarizing myself with my new (to me) GG.
The front spigot on the carb is quite long and can be safely backed out of the manifold a bit...I split the difference.

The machined spigots do a good job of fixing this problem, which unfortunately has been going on for some time. Or, you could get a 2002 airbox boot, which only fits the Dellorto, quite well I might add. The boot was changed in 03' to allow the wider bell VHST to be used, hense the required adapter for the smaller bell PHBL.

Also, while your here - your swingarm spindle clamp bolts are loose by the looks of things! Worth tightening up as they're part of the casings!
