My mate has asked me about this bike on pistonheads (hes after a cheap bike to start on), I rekon it’s a bit too cheap?

But I’m no expert on trials bikes!

i'd think it's about right certainly not dear, such bikes are kind of in no mans land you may pick up an 06 /07 for £1100 to £1500,trouble is £600 bikes of that age often need a bit of a sort out and a couple of hundred pounds doe'snt go far these days, but early gassers ,beta's etc do look good value against an old twin shock and they can't go down that much in price any more.don't know what spares are like for early sherco's remember mine had issues with the main bearings when it was nearly new, personally i'd buy an early beta techno as i think they were better built or maybe a 315r mont as there cheap these days.

I would question the year. Unless I am mistaken, orange fuel tanks were fitted on the 1999 model. The 2000 bike had a blue tank.
If I fill my tyres with helium, will I get up it?

Correct. It definitely has 1999 model colour plastics.

I had a 2000 brand new (at the end of 99) and the build quality was dire. Now that doesn't mean that it's not well worth £500.

The best thing to do is find a mate who knows trials bike mechanics and take a look. If the suspension is scrap, it needs tyres, chain sprockets and rattles like a box of spanners, then walk away. You could easily spend another £300 getting it ready to compete.
On the other hand, if you could get a season out of it, then it wouldn't owe you very much at the end of the year and it wouldn't matter too much if you scrapped it then. Think how much a new bike looses in one season!
