What To Look Out For When Buyin A Tlr200?

TLR200 has 35mm forks & gold alloy rims with red tank/seat/mudguards

Reflex has thinner 33mm forsk, steel rims & white tank/seat & mudguards.

Weakspots

Wheel rim corrosion on gold rims - look at previous posts - gold rims rot from inside & out.

Noisy top end - from lack of oil changes.

Worn 'splines' on output shaft where sprocket fits - check for movement on sprocket

There are guys out there who know a lot better than me what to look for - have a search through previous posts and you will find reflex & TLR pictures.

Otherwise its a Honda & is built to last not a Gas gas! - just wait on the comments

Then again its going to be 15years old or so & there is bound to be some wear.

James, the reflex is much the same basic set-up as my 200e, they both need the gearing sorted as well as the suspension, the main problem with the Reflex is the carburation. If you replace the exhaust and carb with good quality aftermarket stuff they should show a marked improvement. If you get a "Californian" Reflex you have much more work to do, as these were equipped with emission control carb and exhaust systems and need much more work to get them fit for competition, not impossible just more expensive. All that said, having done most of the work I wouldn't swap my bike for anything else. Dave PS have a look in the Honda forum

Thanks for that JB, if you hadn't noticed a lot of these posts aren't right up to date..........still have interest for people who haven't seen them though. I have a friend who has recently asked similar questions, he would still find some of the remarks and information on here usefull.

Hi, further to my remark to johnnyboxer, if these posts were time limited why are they not removed from the forum after say a couple of months, or a year?As has been established, I have a tlr200, and find many of the posts on here of any age usefull to maintaining and improving the bike. A great deal of the information I have sought while looking for a bike has come from here or has led me to places to study Hondas. OOPS, sorry for the gap since the last posting on this subject! Dave

l'd have an eye out for corrosion. The upper shock mounts can collect a bucket of crud and the swing arm is made of folded steel and collects water and crud ..

aside from the differences above check out the front brake arms as they differ and those gold rims might look ok but internally they rust like no other. the rust accumulates and it means fitting a new tyre is nye on impossible without spending A LOT of time removing the stuff..
