Had road bikes before about 7-8 years ago supermoto etc never done trials before. Got in touch with my local club Essex and suffolk borders and going to see a trial end of the month. What's the best bike for a 6ft 3in 100kg rider? What's the best/most reliable bike to look out for? Don't want to spend thousands well not just yet! Maybe £750-1200?

At that budget, one that goes will be a bonus.

Early Beta REV3 2001 on would fall into your budget. Early 2000's Sherco would also do the job. If you can find a good 315R Montesa they are hard to beat. Built to take the knocks and still competitive in the right hands.

Not really no, a local club trial where you will meet genuine people with genuine bikes who will most probably tell you the truth about it.

Just to say I had a mate call round interested in trials.. he runs big honda road bike which is immaculate full of refinment & quality and cost him £1200
His reaction when I said hew wouldn't get much for similar money in trials bikes;.... he was quite incredulous ...there is a logic when you put road bike and trials bike side by side. We are getting so specialized our heads will soon be dissapearing up our own *sses....I suppose so long as we do it in flashy clothes with our feet up it will be regarded a good. All sensible answers are above you can get something to feel the waters for that money if you like it you can trade up if not ..not too much to loose.

Hi just a note to say if you can stretch to £1,500 price range you will find there are some fairly decent bikes out there. I bought my 2007 290 sherco for that sort of money, i have used it nearly every weekend for past two years and have found it more capable for a novice like myself. I ride for Ipswich club so am also close for you , is it the trial on the 29th at raydon you are thinking of coming to? If so its a good venue for watching might see you there.
