Mig welding on bike, what about the electrics of the bike? 11 sherco?

Your not supposed to as it could damage the electrics.Dropping the engine out and disconnecting the electrics cant take the long just for piece of mind. Better taking an hour longer than having to fork out brass for something you could have prevented!

make sure earth wires are disconnected ,a bad earth on welder connection could put unwanted power throughbike wiring, play safe & disconnect everthing

Bond all wires together after diconnecting them.Better yet take ignition and all electrics off of the bike.

On the flip side, I've known people MIG snd TIG weld bikes with electrics still connected with no adverse affect. I wouldn't do it though and always disconnect the wires for peace of mind (although I haven't a clue what's actually happening in terms of current etc. - don't understand electricity....)

Wonder what part you are welding on an '11?
Me, I would probably disconnect the magneto harness and possibly remove the cdi unit.
Insure a good ground close by.

Now then, Thanks very much figured that might be the case like, but without a battery i didnt think it would take much harm.
