Try loosening your axle nut and the pinch bolts on the axle along with the triple clamp pinch bolts and cycle the forks gently to line every thing up . And make sure your spacers are in correctly on the axle , the hub should fit with minimal clearance to the forks so you don't bind everything up when you tighten the axle.

Thanks to all for advice. Although everything appeared to be aligned, I loosened all the pinch bolts and adjusted as suggested. All seems a lot better now. I think most of the problem lay with the mudguard bracket/fork brace and the sequence that the various clamps etc were tightened. My forks only have one seal per leg. I am led to believe that later models had this alteration as standard but nor sure
