Thanks, that was quick!

1.5 deg doesn't sound much but I don't know the effect of a small change like that; did you end up doing it, and if so, did it make a discernible difference?

I might just lift the back end with some longer shocks, as they need replacing anyway. I always think they look better lifted a bit at the back and it would keep the wheelbase original, I suppose.

1.5° will make an appreciable difference, any more and you start to have issues with clearance with exhaust / mudguard. 25hmmm longer shocks is supposed to equate to 1°. Some makes of shocks you can be lengthen, 395mm is about max before the chain starts to hit the lower part of the frame, and the brake pedal. The brake pedal can be moved down if the footrests have been moved down and back. Where do you stop ?

My opinion only, but on an SWM there is no need to even start  -  those I've ridden are fine as they are and will steer around anything

Altering steering on older bikes doesn't always give a benefit. I've a 340 Sherpa with altered steering and I'm not convinced. I'd guess there is a fine line between making something marginally better and ruining it

Thanks guys. No substitute for experience.

I've done the footrest position but I can put that back to standard if I want to in the future - the headstock would be a different matter and I think I'll leave it well alone.

New shocks and see how it goes, then.

Cheers

Hi. Here's a pic of my modified TLNW320. It's also in the thread 'Show me your Twinshocker'.

Anyway, the steering angle has not been modified. The pegs have been moved down and back, the bars have been raised and as you can see, the rearend has been lifted. The distance center to center of the rear shocks is now 375mm. It turns on a sixpence so I personally see no need to mod the steering angle drastically. Each to his own though. a mod which works for me, might not work for you and vice versa. I'm 1,83m and tip the scales kitted out at around 105Kg.

The shocks are the latest on offer from NJB by the way, cost ca. €170.

what trials are you intending to ride where changing the angle by 1.5 dgrees will save you marks?

Practise for the time it takes to strip the bike pay for the work and youll probably end up better off marks wise?

@nigel dabster - spare frame  so no big deal if it doesnt work, and I can do it myself so cost is just time.

@brownie001 - extending your shocks steepens the head angle, you do realise that ?
