I`ve had a reply from Inmotion. I asked which fork seals I need, the reply said " they could be 7mm or 10mm" really helpful!!

I`ll strip them down and measure, make sure that I get the right ones.

My bike has white plastic mudguards not the alloy. I quite like the look of them so might keep them for now, matches the tank and side panels.

Hi b40rt, I asked which fork seals I needed for my Mk2 Ossa mar. Thought that a straight forward reply would return. Looks like I should have removed the old ones, intact, measured them and then ordered them. Not asked for advice from a specialised dealer. I never had any problems with other bike specialists when ordering parts.

This is why I`ve asked on this forum which wheel and head bearings I need, makes things simpler. Should have asked on here about the fork seals.

Hi Ed, Barfast is about half a mile from where I grew up, used them for all my other bikes, even old Brit bikes using whitworth. This time I used a place in Taunton. A full set in stainless for my Ossa cost me £15, bargain!!

To be fair to In Motion, I can understand the question because these bikes are now 40 years old and any number of components can have been changed by previous owners, so you can't always be sure that a bike is actually fitted with it's original components.

I use 1 10mm seal in each leg.

I agree with woody. The thing is most of us ride our bike and constantly upgrade and modify our bike's to make them perform better which after all is what it's all about isn't it? It's not like ordering a part for your car these are competition motor cycles and even the factory fitted different bits to seemingly same models. Just depended on what was lying around at the time. Easy to measure first and save returning bits isn't it?

You've never ordered parts for cars then - even new cars can have a bewildering range of options, for the same part.

Yes, fair point. I`ll order the 10mm ones and go from there.

Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that I`d need three bearings for the rear wheel, 4 if a flat sprocket were fitted. Why are they sold in pairs?

Suppose that I could keep one for a spare!!

If you are to trial the bike fit the non dished sprocket mod with the extra bearing, otherwise the spindle can bend wrecking the bearings and making the wheel difficult to remove.

There is another swinging arm variant which has two bolt holes so you can change the position of the bottom damper mountings. This was fitted to both 250s and 310s at some time late 74 on.

I always buy my bearings from a local supplier. I've NEVER been sold a pair just buy as many as I want. Don't get what you mean. Sorry

On the In Motion website wheel bearings are priced as pairs but they'll sell you as many as you want
