laird387 Posted January 26, 2014 Report Share Posted January 26, 2014 Hi, Whenever I look through the archive images of the Scottish in years long past I am struck by how many of the scenes could be photographed today from the same viewpoint with very little change apart from the fashions of the spectators. Agreed quite a few of the tracks have now been widened and a coating of tarmac applied - but even then most of the roads that were made were realigned leaving the old paths as they ever were. In this view from the 1935 event Bob Snelling is confidently climbing the track on what he often referred to as his 'works bike' - why, because a few short weeks after purchasing it the engine failed, so the bike was promptly returned by the dealer to the works. A few days later it reappeared, with a shiny new motor, carefully tuned and checked by the factory, and with a Rolls-Royce-like note saying: "No fault found......." Enjoy.
